Based on photos, at least two RON 15 boats carried the Adaptor pattern in the Med. 207 is the only one I can confirm at present.

A look at www.navsource.org, in the PT section, there are numerous photos of RON 15 boats ... and two are in the Adaptor Scheme. These are the 206 (although I don't know how NAVSOURCE can ID as the 206 since there are no visible numbers on the boat) and the other photo is of the 208, with three Packard engines on a pier in front of her.

Additionally, an earlier edition of Mr. Chun's book has - I think - has two photos of RON 15 on and being offloaded of the ENOREE and the boat(s) in those photos are in the Adaptor Scheme.

I do remember seeing a photo of the 212 in a floating drydock wearing the Adaptor Scheme, but I don't remember where I saw it.

Hope this helps you.

Garth

All;
Navsource identification of the boat being PT 206 is incorrect. Joe is very busy and does not always get the time to move photos around to there correct spot. I have informed Joe in the past, but since the site is so huge, it takes him a little time to get around to correct incorrectly Identified boats.
PT 207(LTjg Fred Rosen: BIG SEVEN/LUCKY SEVEN/ZEBRA) and PT 208(LTjg Dick Wolf-EIGHTBALL) RON 15 were the Zebra Higgins boats. In factr the photo on Navsource for PT 206, when you put your cursor on it, says PT 205, but it is actually PT 208, because, that is Dick Wolf standing on the forecastle.
LTjg Jake Oswald's PT 206(LONELY HEARTS) was never painted in the adapter scheme.
Take care,

I agree with Ted, the 207 & 208 are the only boats that I've seen as 'zebras'. I've always wondered when they were painted as such........in NOLA prior to sailing to NY ?..............
or in convoy on the way to the Med ? Or...............?

Hold on you guys! I was the one who sent NAVSOURCE the photo of PT306. It was labeled as "PT306: Dick Gilpin Artist" it was right there in the PT309 website "Defenders of America" that I got off the "internent wayback machine". It was in Bill Pleasants photo album. I posted it here for your viewing pleasure. Maybe he got it wrong, but I would tend to believe the label on the back of the photograph as being a pretty reliable source. By the way, the PT306 was in RON22 not RON15, you ccan even see the RON22 Eagle on the side of the guntub. I think Joe mislabeled this photo as PT206 instead of the correct PT306. Jerry

Jerry,

Thank you.

That was one of the photos I was thinking of, and I even described it above; but I was told by someone that it was one of RON 15 boats.

Clearly like you say it's from RON 22 ...

But, may I ask you guys a question?

If some of the Regia Marina's MAS boats were painted in a similar scheme, why would the USN even think about painting any PT in the Adaptor Scheme. A fighter pilot would see it and maybe mistake it for a MAS boat. Right?

Jerry, it sure looks like the Ron 22 Eagle to me. I stand corrected. Thanks for posting the photo.

Jerry;
Nope. I knew about this one. But everybody was talking about RON 15, here so I never brought up PT 306 RON 22. RON 22 also had a wide bunch of camo schemes and most of the boats were painted differently, but they were mostly versions of grey and blue-gray. Camo leaned towards RN MTB camos The boat on NAVSOURCE is in the 206 file, labeled as 205, but it is actually 208. By the way, the darker stripes on PT 208 and 207were actually Light Blue/sky blue/ Thayer Blue, not gray.

Al
An article I read years ago in the PT Boater, by a RON 15 guy who was on either 207 or 208, the article also mention Pink being used, but I am not sure if this referred to the Zebra's of another RON 15/RON 22 boat.As a result, this falls into you previous statement "As usual, I'm not interested in conjecture or "I was told" responses, as they seldom have any value beyond making things murkier"
So this just adds to the murkiness.
I will search my articles for it.
Take care,

Ted,

I think I've seen that "article" in its original handwritten format - on a piece of paper from a legal pad (Xeroxed) - very difficult to read and follow. The PTBI archives has it.
