» Topic: PT Skipper Sam Reynolds (RON-9) been laid up for a while
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=2971

I want to report that Sam Reynolds has been having a tough time of it. Sam, now blind, broke his leg going to the head one night and has been the hospital and rehab for the past month. He’s been get infections, has had intestinal issues and is now low on energy & strength. It’s been this way for well over a month now and it doesn't look like he’ll get out of rehab much before Christmas; if then! I been calling him 2 -3 times a week to keep his spirits up.

Sam was XO of the PT-162 (RON-9) and later it's Skipper. The 162 was the closest PT to the PT-109 the night the 109 went down...although he would say other events were event more memorable!

He could use some holiday cheer and cards if you are so inclined to do so

Sam is at:

Eastern Shores Rehab Center
101 Villa Drive
Daphne, AL, 36526

Two Ron 9 PT Boat skippers. Ham and Sam at the reunion. I wish the best to both of them as they are in their 90's.

When Sam (PT-162) saw my father (PT-154) entering from across the room he yelled out his name ...
... "Ham Smith I thought you were dead ... I would have paid a million bucks to see you alive again."

Thanks Bridge and Steve. I am going off to visit my Dad next week for his 93rd birthday ... a big family gathering.
These guys were in their early 20's when they shared their Ron 9 experiences together. Age 24 is a long time ago for me ... imagine what it is for these skippers.

Thanks Bridge, I'll get a card out this weekend. Nat, seeing that photo of your dad and Sam Reynolds made me want to take a look at my pictures of the reunion. I remembered Sam's face. Sure enough, I've got some of him, but I'll be darned if I can't figure out how to post them on the board. Nat, I'll send them to you via e-mail and maybe you can post them?

Nat;
Please send my best to your Dad and I hope he has a wonderful birthday next week. I am so glad Ham and Sam enjoyed each others company and got a chance to relive "The Good Old Days" one more time! Imagine, two Skippers from the same squadron, once in their 20's, meeting 70 years later, joking and swapping sea stories. Yes, this was priceless!
Take care,
TED
