SEA QUEEN V, Manhattan, NY – 1970
The "SEA QUEEN IV" sailed from Manhattan during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She was a converted US Navy PT boat owned and operated by Captain Donald Schmahl. Built in 1942 by Elco shipbuilding at Bayonne, NJ, she originally sailed as the US Navy C-102548, and later as the US Navy PT-95. She then sailed Captain Gus Marinak's "SUN TAN" from the Bronx, NY before becoming the "SEA QUEEN V". Photo courtesy of Bill Fedison.

Notice the typo? Identified as PT 95, this is the typo that killed her, the typo was on her original documentation, and when she was tied up in NYC probate court, PTHQ was notified about her, but when they were told by owners it was PT 95, they were not interested. When Boats actually found out she was PT 59, it was too late, an electical short circuit caused her to catch fire, and she burned at the pier ajacent to the 207th St Railroad bridge in Harlem. NY.
