Put a fork in it, she's done! I've been working hard on this little diorama right up to the deadline for the model show today. This is my first scale model show and I entered 4 subjects. Two Destroyers (1:700), One Submarine (1:700), and Rescue of PT-505 diorama in 1:350. The Destroyers took 2nd and 3rd in their category. The Sub took 1st, and YES YES YES, THE ONE I'M MOST EXCITED ABOUT, RESCUE OF PT-505 TOOK FIRST PLACE IN THE DIORAMA CATAGORY!! So, with that the final reveal for the first time outside the contest floor and dedicated to Mr. Joe Frank......

Our subject piece...

Tried to edit the photos but no luck. I tightened them up some. I don't like getting too close in this scale because perspective gets lost.

Barvo Zulu! Very well done!

Hard to believe that it's only 1/350 scale!

Congratulations on the 1st place.

Cheers

Meant to say that the water looks like it's liquid and could flow out of the base box.

Cheers

Beautiful job, Dave, and congratulations.

You do some great modeling work, my friend!

I can't wait to see your (inevitable) version of the Italeri 1/35th scale PT 103-class boat, however you decide to eventually model it...

David:

I just printed out the photo's here and took them to Mr. Frank.

I can't even begin to discribe his reaction. He has thanked me numerous times for being a friend to him here in the home, and I have told him that I am the honored one to have his friendship.

He teared up and said now he feels he has two friends here. I asked him where he was in the photgraph and he said he was on the boat by the bridge so he could protect the radar and radio.

He said he would break out his magnifing glass and see if he could recognise himself. He still has all of his since of humor. He can't wait to meet you David.

You have done a remarkable job interpreting a photo taken on D-Day and bringing back some great memories for a real hero.

I am glad to call you a friend as well.

Denny

Thanks everyone and Thank you Denny. It's my honor and privilege. I'm giving a presentation on the build Saturday. Let's figure a time when I can come out and meet the two of you.

I'm adding some crates to the LCM. I thought they looked a little bare. I would like to enter it in the IPMS Nationals next Summer as well. I'm not sure if it's worthy but I'd like to give it a shot.

Back to the 105.

Dave

Some exciting news today. I talked to Denny White who has adopted Mr. Frank at the VA Retirement Home. He told me that the Navy is awarding Mr. Frank with some medals that he earned but were never awarded. Apparently the local media will be there as well. I'll be bringing the diorama for sure. Some more good news. They have a nice display case that I can place the diorama into for Mr. Frank to enjoy and talk to his friends about his service.
I'm looking forward to meeting Mr. Frank and his family.

David

This is wonderful News, and I would bet will make Mr. Franks one of the happiest guys around. It is always a thrill when you can do something like this for the PT BOAT VETERANS. This is why I did our PT-374 Memorial project, to honor Wallace McNeish, PT-108/Sub project to honor Earl Richmond, and FEMU Barge to honor Al Moore. Just a great feeling when you can do this. Happy for you Dave...........

Dave and Denny;
OUTSTANDING JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your reward is exactly what I felt, when I sent Ken Prescott photos of my model: PT 48. Also what I felt making my RON 29 and RON 22 Bastia Diorama, and getting feedback from Vern Peak(Exec of PT 308). Your Diorama represents the PT 505 getting towed to the beach for repairs.
Now as Frank said, try one in 1/72nd scale, with "PORTLAND OR BUST" painted on the side and PT505(LT William C. Godfrey) being towed by PT 500(LT. Douglas S. Kennedy) back to Portland on June 11th, for major repair.
Just an Idea.
Take care,
TED

Easy Ted! My priority right now is finishing up the PT-105 model. I'm also waiting on parts so I can finish up another 1:350 project inspired by Jerry Gilmartin. I'm waiting on the manufacturer to supply some kits and photo etch.

As for the 1/72 Revell kit, I'm done with that one. Revell hinted at remaking that kit and I wouldn't be surprised to see them do that, much as they did with their old 1/72 B-17F kit. It's been one of their all time best sellers. If they do a good job on it, well... maybe I'll take another crack at that scale. I'm more excited about the 1:35 Italeri kits though.

Thanks for the feedback Ted. I'm really looking forward to the presentation in a little over a week and between Denny and me I'm hoping we can get some photos posted to share with you.
