» Topic: Calling all PT-109 experts. Italeri needs our assistance
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=2712

Greetings all,
I was contacted today by Steve at Italeri requesting help organizing a booklet that they are going to include in their upcoming PT-109 kit release. Steve sent me some of his work which I can give him some direction on.

Okay, first order of business. I need to find Gene Kirkland. They would like Gene's permission to use some of the pictures and information from the PTKing web site relating to the 109. They're interested in getting higher resolution pictures and any additional information Gene may have on the 109. Gene, if you're out there, or of somebody can find Gene for me I would be grateful.

Next, Italeri would like to use photos from the PT-109 movie. I reached out to Warner Brothers Legal today to see if they can help Steve with his project and most importantly get approval to publish. Do you guys know anything about copyright law? Has this become public domain at this point? We'll see what WB comes back with.

Okay, next... Since information and photo references of PT-109 are fairly limited, I'm going to suggest to Steve that he provide more pictures of the 103 class boat starting with the basic boat coming out of the factory as well as what crews did with these boats in the field. Can you guys provide any good quality photos and stories of 103 class boats?

Finally, do you all have any good quality photos of PT-109, and do you have any suggestions that I can pass along to Italeri? Something that would be of interest to modelers who buy this kit and would be helpful in construction.

I'll stop there for now. No new information to share with you on the kit itself except to tell you that the information I've sent from Dick and Jeff have been very helpful. Please feel free to email me at davidwaples@comcast.net.

Thank you
Dave

David,

Better continue your efforts to reach out to Warner Brothers, Copyright protection is extended 70 years. Most likely Warner will expect royalties from the use of any images from their movies. This wilnot be cheap. Worth looking but do not have high expectations.

If WB were smart they would include a coupon to buy a DVD of the movie! You're probably right. I'll see what WB comes back with. Right now they're probably worried about the aftermath of the shootings here in Colorado after the airing of their Batman movie. Tragic.

Dave

You should be able to produce a very nice booklet using generic and regular photo's. I have many photos I used for my JFK/PT-109 Exhibit that included many non PT-109 Movie photo's. I have many photos of JFK and of course, Elco, that could be used. Let me know. They are very good quality shots............

Sounds great Frank. Are they all in digital format? What do you think is the best way to share them with Italeri?

Dave

I am not sure if I have all of them in digital format, but I will look and send you some for you to look at. Maybe you could ask Italeri how they would like them, and let me know.

Dick, not a bad idea, except I have just about every photo that the Library has on PT-109 and Kennedy. I have used some of the library photo's, and of course I had my own.........

Frank, since you have all the pics we'll keep it simple and go with what you have. As soon as I hear back from Steve I will let you know.
Thank you
