Salvaged PT Boat renovated and on it's way to a new Aviation museum in Port Clinton, Ohio. Just about 15 minutes from my house. Will enjoy seeing it.

Thanks for the update! It would be nice to see this boat returned to its original condition.

I think that is the plan, to make it all original. It was in pretty bad shape but now looks really good from the outside. Not sure if they have it completely rigged out, but I hear that is the plan. The new museum, although not opened yet, looks like they are sparing no expense. Attached to the museum on the local landing strip is an old fashion diner. Everything looks very authentic.

Thanks for posting the image. I have some problem with this, so will have to review the tutorial. Just searching the web at PT Boat to Port Clinton, there is also a short video of the PT Boat coming through some locks on the way here.
I see the grand opening is set for July 20th. They seem to be building this area up as a historical site. Some nice museums on the islands too.

All "click" and "photo" links have been corrected.

I'm a little confused, is it being returned to its original configuration?

I was under the impression this was actually a 70' Vosper, modified to slightly resemble an 80' Elco . . . . . But we all know my memory!

According to navsource the museum is planning to restore the boat back to it's original Vosper configuration.

They also have another Vosper, the 724 boat which "is currently being restored to its original configuration" (hopefully).

Hello fellow shipmates!
I have been in touch with the Liberty Aviation Museum's Curator and we posted their link on the "Save the PT Boat" website as well. They sound like they have the best of intentions to restore both of these PT Boats to their original condition and to honor PT Boat veterans everywhere. They already have a great thing going there with the Re-enactment of D-Day every year on the lake shore. I am impressed with their whole operation. Here is a link to their museum website, and if you scroll down the page you can play a video of the PT-728 moving through the locks of the canal. http://www.libertyaviationmuseum.org/

Good luck you guys with your upcoming work on the boat!

Yes Al, the black number shading is way too skimpy. [:-whoo2-:]

I can't tell if the boat is happy to be in the water or if a squirrel is using the mast as a stash.

It should be noted that I have been the consultant on this project, and although I have provided all original materials and blueprints, I did not have the final say as to what would be changed. It had long been my contention that all of the upper deck be rebuilt from the chart house back, and against my protest, the chart house was left in place. I guess you can't have everything your way. The radar mast drawings and all photos were sent to Ohio and they did a great job of building one, until they got to the radar dome, which to my knowledge is an operating modern radar. All blueprints, drawings, and or photos for everything on that boat was sent to Ohio my myself, so they had everything needed to create the look and feel of an Elco PT BOAT.

The gun turrets, being built by my good friend Harland Avezzi are a sight to behold, looking as good as the original turrets. In fact the guns will actually operate using propane tanks hidden in the turrets. I have heard the guns fire and it is stunning. True, I would have preferred that the group in Ohio had purchased an original hull instead of this boat, but I had joined a good week after the purchase, and had not been in the loop. From what I gather, they will again be working on the boat shortly. Just a quick note here, her engines should push this boat at the original ( Elco ) speed of 41 knots or better. Her MK-13 torpedoes are a spot on match to the originals, as is other items on the boat. Not an Elco but a real nice boat just the same. So, be nice in your judgement of what they are working hard to obtain, because in the end it will be one heck of boat, Ohio can be proud of.
