I have been talking with Don about the 493 and 495 boats (RON 33). He says his dad's boat, 493, had an "acey-ducey". That was a 20mm with a .50 attached to each side of it. I've seen photos that show it. I don't know the date of the photo but the 493 was lost in the Battle of Surigo Strait so that defines the end date.

I've also seen photos of the 525 boat with MacArthur on it oin Oct'44 and it clearly has this set-up but this one looks like only 1 .05 cal attached to the 20mm.

In the photo of the 490, 491 and 495 nested to the Oyster Bay, the guns are covered so it is hard to tell for sure one way or the other but if I had to choose i would say the covers do not look like they are covering 2 or 3 barrels. I'm not sure of the date of that photo.

Does anybody know about the acey-ducey set-up and when it might have been installed? Replaced? Anything?
Thanks,
Ed
