Today's Providence Journal list's Ernest Major as having died on Saturday, May 5,2012 in Warwick,RI. It list's him as a member of RON 22, plank owner of PT 309, and says he is only one of three living original plank owners of that boat.

Thanks for your update. Sad news indeed.. Ernie Major is the man who was responsible for providing a large amount of photographs of the PT309 and the PT305 that we have been viewing and discussing over these last few years. He allowed us to view his personal photo album and shared them with the Defenders of America Naval Museum website. I saw photos of Ernie there, but I have never met him personally. He was a great supporter of PT Boats and he will be greatly missed. Thanks Ernie for all that you did. Fair Winds and Following Seas! Jerry Gilmartin

As Ernie was a man of fast boats that went into harms way, I hope he is greeted once again by his crewmates, and gets underway with them again on that fast boat, but this time he is riding a peaceful clam sea enjoying the rays of light that are our lord.
Thanks Ernie!
