I was so very happy this morning when an original Repair Training Unit Instructors Book showed up in my Mail. Used at melville to train recruits, this book has many many sections all dealing with Motor orpedo Boats. The sections as follows:

1. BLUE PRINT READING
2. HULL CONSTRUCTION ( ELCO & HIGGINS PT BOATS )
3. ELCO SYSTEMS
4. PAINTING THE BOATS
5. PT HULL REPAIR
6. DAMAGE CONTROL
7. DRY DOCKS AND DRY DOCKING
8. SMALL BOAT CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR
9. METALSMITH & SHIPFITTER
10 WOODWORKING TOOLS AND MACHINERY
11 CO2 SYSTEMS
12 CHARTHOUSE DAYROOM TORPEDOES GUN TUBS

I have not put the book down since 10:00 am this morning. It is full of everything one would need to know about the PT Boats and repairs made to them in the field. I even have a list of what was used to paint the boats and the Navy colors and specs. I now have the information at my finger tips. This will add so much to my Exhibit. his man was an instructor at Melville. I also recieved his uniform, all Navy records, medals and dog tags. It will certainly help those of us on the message board with questions about repair. I though I would pass this on.

There are several items that remain in a locked area of the Springfield Museum and I am pretty sure the Manual is one of them. I need to check which storage container it may be in. If I have time I will try and get it out and make a copy for you. No promises, as I am pretty busy the next couple of weeks, but I will try.

The section on painting might be very useful to many of us. As you now have the manual, can you scan and upload that particular section?

I have located the Training Manual from melville. I had it here at home tucked away in another Container. Sometimes I forget what I have and where it is. When I get a moment, I will scan the section on PAINTING THE BOATS and send it to Dick, who will put it up on the message board for me ( opps sorry Dick, I have not asked yet ) so be patient, I will get to you. For those who wanted a copy of the entire manual, I will get a price to you.
