The full around lens, would that be for a 565-624 boat? Too bad it's not green, it would make a cool doorside light.

Just curious, how do we know this just happens to be a port (red) fresnel lens for a PT boat. Just consider all the small boats that were used during the war. Or should it read "could be found or like the type used on late war PT boat). It seems because of the large following of PT boats on eBay it is an easy marketing ploy to say PT boat. Just a thought.
Sheldon.

The chances that this is from a PT BOAT is pretty slight. In fact I doubt it very much. There were some things on a PT that were standard navy issue for all small craft. Unless you have documentation, I tend to doubt all claims on EBAY that anything came from a PT BOAT..............

Hear hear Frank!
I whole-heartedly agree with you. What really gets my goat is the guy who continualy sells an obvious fake. He is trying to make a buck (ASKING $800!) from stealing the valor of famous PT Boat KIA. It is listed as "Marney & Kirksey PT109 Medal set collection" I think it should be illegal for scum t do things like that. I pity the fool who buys that thing as well. What is sad is that so many uninformed public may fall for this scam just because of the PT boat mystique. OK I will get down off of my soapbox now. Jerry

On the bright side, I paid $20 bucks for my clear fresnel on ebay. It had no mention of a PT boat.

Dicks parts catalog might have been able to pinpoint the part number but unfortunately it doesn't include the 565-624 series. Frank, would you happen to have the p/n listed in your build manual?

After a little investigating and looking through Dick's microfilm DVD I found the Elco drawing for the fresnel lens for all Elco boats and all four postions, the only cylinderical lens is a the Anchor ligth (Clear) on the aft of the boat. The bow light (clear) is a half lens, with the side lights (red or green) as quarter lenses. It was great to find the drawings Elco made for the fresnel lens - who would have thought. Picture below:

Sorry Dick I hope you don't mind I posted the drawing.

That drawing doesn't include the 565-624 lenses. I'm pretty sure the running light lenses for those boats were similar to the e-bay one, check out drawings ELCO_Roll_5535-2_72SCAN_00304_PT_565_624.pdf and ELCO_Roll_5535-2_72SCAN_00305_PT_565_624.pdf.

Jeff, the manual doesn't list any numbers associated with the lenses, I might look in another spot.

It looks like it's the real deal. The part number comes up on the PT spec manual at the bottom of page 40 http://www.hnsa.org/doc/pt/specs/part2.htm#pg39:

Jeff, just wondering why the lights on the 565-624 would be different?

The 565-622 were the last boats produced by Elco but I don't know why the changes.

Another unique change near the running light was the 565-622 (according to a drawing) also had an air horn mounted to the running light screen:
