Good catch Al -
Funny, I thought Elco 80 footers evacuating the staff in 1942 were only used in the movie TWE. It might not be crappy research just wishful hoping someone would buy the photo tag line and the photo. He needs to change the tag line word Invaded to Evacuated.

Al and Dick,
This photo brings back a memory of a story told to me by CQM Al McCready, PT491 RON33 who has that photo piloting the PT490 with General MacArthur from Samar to Negros Island in early 1945. Evidently, Chief McCready saw the General having Lawn Chairs placed up on the bow for him to sit. It seems that the General tended to get seasick while on PT Boats (It was a well known story to the PT Boaters) and he wanted to sit up front on the bow to get as much fresh air as possible to prevent the queasy feeling from overtaking him. Chief Al recommended the General not sit up there since rough seas may pitch him over the side. When they first got underway, the General stood amidships. After they were away from shore, the General, minimizing Al's cautions, moved up to the bow to sit in the lawn chair. The passage to Negros Island did hit some fair amount of high seas and Al said he watched the General, (while sitting in his Lawn Chair the whole time) go airborne several times and come back for a landing on the deck. Of course, being at the helm of the boat, it was possible that the Chief may have "augmented" the amount of pitch and roll the boat took by hitting the crests at the opportune moment. This must have been quite a sight to see. Jerry
