Who knows PTs 7 and 8?

My reference books say they were built at the Philly yard... but I've come across two ads using he same photo, indicating that they were Higgins.

The books say Higgins built PTs 5 and 6-1 and 6-2.

Who is right?

H7 and H8 were 70' Higgins boats originally part of a design for the Finns, who never got them because of their alliance with Germany. The original boats ended up with the RN as MGBs, while eight boats (OJR1 through OJR6, plus these two) ended up with the Royal Netherlands Navy.

PT 7 & 8 were PNY boats, 7 being wood and 8 aluminum.

Thanks Al... So the boats in the pictures are H7 and H8, not PT-7 and 8.
All clear!

Yup, they're kinda interesting boats. H7 and H8 mounted two Dewandre turrets and a Y gun. This is them under construction at Higgins:

This is the original design:

and this is H8 from astern, showing the Y gun:

With the more then 200 ads I have dealing with PT BOATS, it seems that many outside Companies used boats as part of their ad campaigns. Not all the boats fit the ads however, as some claimed to use engines in boats that we know never used them, or boats in action against the enemy that were not in that part of the World. Outside of the actual builders ads, some of those outside companies produced ads without really knowing which boats fit the bill...................

In this particular instance, there was truth in advertising ... [:-good-:].

Thee boats were originally powered by coupled Kermath engines (2 per shaft). According to Jan Visser's site, these were viewed as unsatisfactory and replaced with two Packards in H7 and H8.
