Al
Reading your book Allied Coastal Forces Vol. I, Returned USN: What did this actualy mean in 1950's Navy Speak? Did all of these boats get returned to Bremershaven, FRG, as in the photo I have? I mean all the ELCO boats in your book marked like this? I realize alot were sunk(ie: the RON 29 survivors) in the Barents Sea in 1956.
But just as an example PT 517 was returned to USN in 1955, while all other Ex- RON 34 boats were stricken and destroyed. Many of the PT 732-760 boats were also returned to USN in July 1955. What happened to these 29 boats?
Take care,
TED

Don't really have a worthwhile answer beyond what was in ACFV2. Probably the best person to answer this question is Chip Marshall, as he focuses on the boats in the post-WWII period. He lurks here on occasion and might even read this...[:-veryhappy-:]

I have Jurg Meister's Soviet Warships of the Second World War. It has some detailed listings of what was done with what boat. This is a 35-year old book and, while he used (among others) Soviet documents, I have no idea how reliable the info is, especially that derived from Soviet sources.
