I wasn't too clear on what painting. It's the cover of the calendar showing what looks like a PT right up on a beach.

This was taken from a Packard Marine Engine ad. I have the same one in my collection of PT BOAT ADS. More or less that the engine is dependable. I would have to look at the ad again to see what it says...........

Is this the one you guys are talking about? It talks about a man sized hole blown into the hull and water in the engine room so deep only the spark plugs and carburetor were above water, and the boat made it about a mile to the shore before the engines gave out. The final shift of the gears had to be made by ducking his head below water.

This story may be based upon the real life PT43, sunk on Jan 11 1943 off Guadalcanal. Here is excerpt from Gene Kirklands Website "The unknown history of PT109"

"Another destroyer, the Tokitsukaze, evaded the two torpedoes fired by Tilden?s PT 43. The unlucky torpedo boat was quickly rendered hors-de-combat by a shell from the Japanese ship, then as the enemy man-of-war closed the distance, it peppered the sea around the stricken PT with machine gun fire as the crew abandoned ship. The 43 continued running unmanned until she beached herself on the Japanese-held shore; one man was killed and two men missing from the PT43's crew."
