Ok guys hold on to your hats. You can buy an original PT BOAT for $150,000 in New Jersey. She just went up for sale on EBAY and she looks awesome. She has been going through a restoration to look like PT-109. Sorry, I was so excited, I forgot to get the Ebay item number. TAKE A LOOK. Why the hell did I not hit the lottery....................

That's a lot of dough...even with the "restoration" thats been done to it. BUT...it's not like you have a lot of PT's to pick from on the open market.

I'd be surprised if it goes for $125K.

Frank;
Too bad he doesn't have more photos, especially showing below deck conditions. For the work that has already been done, and the excellent condition this boat was kept in by the same family for over 40 years, this is actually a very reasonable price. Wish I had $150,000 I could spare, she would be on her way to Virginia Beach next week.
Take care,
TED

Jimmy, That's a steal at 125K for the History you would be getting. Remember this was originally PT-486, and I do know that the hull was kept in wonderful condition when she was being used as a Sightseeing boat. Ted, your right, the owners should have listed many more photos then they did, or at the very least offer more of them to those who have an interest. I swear, if I win the lottery over the weekend, that boat will be mine and on it's way to Massachusetts........COME ON GUYS, I know over the years, we have heard from guys looking to buy a boat, WELL, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE. WILL, can you buy this for me, and I will pay you $25.00 a month for 50 years................

Frank,
I know what you're thinking. But you're pushing your friendship with Stan too far to ask him to take on this project for you! :-)

Jerry, you and the boys up for another restoration project?

Seriously, there are so few examples of this boat remaining it should go to a museum with resources to bring her back.

Dave, LOL. I think Stan would just about Kill me..... You are right, a Museum with the proper resources would be a good bet, but one that is close by. I would love to see the CITY of BAYONNE get the boat. After all, the boat was made in that City, and would be a wonderful piece of History for future generations. The price is a steal for that boat, provided the Hull is Coast Guard Approved, which I think would not be a problem........

Wayne

I just spotted the sale. Hey, for that price, I do not blame anyone who loves PT BOATS for buying this Honey. I hope we might find out who the buyer is, and I sure hope it was someone close by...........

$150,000.00 was a good price + the hull is sound and runs even if does have Detroit Diesels. Just hope it went to the right buyer.

I heard the city of Bayonne was indeed interested in purchasing it for display but decided against it due to an insurance clause regarding flammable wooden structures accessible to local real estate developers.

I hope she finds a good home...

150 is a nice price. Ron put the charthouse on it but she needs some of the deck replaced. Down below is empty everything was stripped out of it years ago. Plenty left to do for a restore but a good foundation to start with.
Can you imagine having 150K spare lying around?? I hope someone didn't hit the buy it now in haste only to make it more painful to watch!

Best to all.

Wow! That was quick. I didn't think, with the current economy and the existing PT projects that the boat would go for that much. Speaking of existing projects...I wonder if the boat went to someone we know or an entirely new operation?

My head is still spinning at how quick she went. I wonder if a deal was already set prior to putting her up on ebay? We can only hope the buyer will not try to undo what Ron started. I also hope whom ever did click the buy it now did not do it in haste not realizing what it takes to own an 80 foot boat PT or not.
The one main lesson I learned with 761 was that it is great to have it for a dollar or donated however there needs to be a set of deep pockets or an endowment given with the project to help on the expense of it. Taking the boat then sweating the funds is scarey and everytime we were shut down on help (either a place to keep it or rasing funds) I still had to cover things out of my own pocket.
I took a major risk to my home and marrage to get the 761 going but I believed in it. I felt shame once I realized there was nothing else I could do for it so I let it go to a guy I thought had the ability where I didn't.
A boat like this can hurt you if not careful. The guy that took the 761 ended up destroying it because he didn't have what it takes. I know Capt Schumann never wanted that to happen to anyone that is why he traded it with Ron.
Lets all hope there are good things ahead for the 486. How exciting would it be to have her open and available to the public as a living working monument to those that served!?!?!

JIM;
WHAT WOULD BE GREAT IS IF SHE IS RESTORED, HAVE HER LIKE PT 658, ABLE TO DO TOURS, BOAT SHOWS AND BURIALS AT SEA FOR PT VETERANS ON THE EAST COAST.
TAKE CARE,

Hey Ted!
In todays shrinking world of cross country air flight and Priceline and expedia website reduced price airline tickets, 3000 miles from East to West coast is not as far as it used to be! When are you going to come to Portland and take an excursion on PT658? Just asking! Although I agree it would be pretty cool to have the 486 boat back in operating condition. Take it easy. Jerry
