ť Topic: Location of Ron 10 after Morotai

Gentlemen:

I'm trying to track the location of Ron 10 towards the end of the war. I have them in Morotia on September 15, 1944, then some of the boats supporting the Australian 7th Division at Balikpapan on June 27, 1945. It seems odd that having been moving up the coast on New Guinea at a new base every 2-4 months that they were in Morotia for almost 10 months. Did they have another move or was barge hunting that good?

DAVE;
I KNOW THAT RON 10 WAS LAST BASED AT PT BASE 17 ON THE ISLAND OF SAMAR IN THE PHILLIPINES. THEY WERE ALSO DECOMISSIONED THERE.

Dave and Steve;
RON10 and RON 27 move to Balikppan, Boreo with Mobjack, after Morotai, they were ther from 27 June 1945-mid September 1945(On 8 September when a mix of 7 RON 10 and RON 27 boats under command of LCDR Henry "STILLY" Taylor recieved Vice Admiral Kamada and his staff to sign surrender documents surrendering all Japanese forces in the area), then finally to Samar for decomm.

Indicated in "At Close Quarters" page 373, second paragraph that Rons 9 and 10 were pulled out of Moritai in Feburary 1945 when the barge hunting slacked off. They next appear at Balikpapan on the 27 of June 1945. Which leaves them somewhere else for about four months. May be I'm reading his time line wrong.

Those dates you mention were only "notable" incidents that occurred during their stay there. If you go to the back of the book in the Squadrons section you will read Moratai, Balikpapan, and Samar. Feb 1945 RON 10 was at Mios Woendi, Sept 10, 1945 the were still at Balikpapan. However, on Sept 12, 1945 they were at PT Base 16 which was onThe Island Of Isabella which was South Of Zamboanga, P.I. and on Sept 16, 1945 PT 171 participated Japanese surrender. Notice this Balikpapan surrender date is different than that of At Close Quarters. I have yet to discover why. For more detailed info go to Mike Montana's site www.pt171.org
