Hello,
I am looking for some ideas from anyone to start construction on a 1/6 scale rc pt boat. I have scratch built a couple in 1/35th scale (pt 109)and 1/20th scale (pt 568)

estimated scale of this boat will be around 14ft long and weigh just under 150lbs. The largest scale i have ever seen for a PT boat was 1/20th (4ft) so i am really excited about starting this project.

looking for a good boat to build that was popular and has a lot of photos color drawrings and lots of layouts. Elco class (other than PT 109)

Hi Mike,
A few years back there was a model builder named robert Voorhees that made a couple of VLPTB's (Very Large PT Boats!) One is 8 feet long and the other is 15 feet long I think. I think he sold it on ebay last year and we had a discussion on this message board about it. I found some photos and placed there here. jerry

Robert Voorhees is a very dear friend of mine, that yes is still around. I just spoke with him the other day. Bob's 15 footer is on display at a local Museum, and he still has his 8 footer. Just last year, I sent Bob some full drawings on the Elco 103 class, as he was interested in building another one. Sadly, Bob has been fighting a rare form of Cancer, that has zapped his strength. He has gone through hell, but continues to get better from his treatments. If anyone is interested in sending Bob a get well card, please let me know and I can get you his address:

As far as which boat to build, boy that's a tough question. There were certainly many Elco boats that were built, so the choice will pretty much rest with you. I recently had PT-108 built to honor one of the guys on this message board, so you could think along those lines. Bridge Carney, just finished a wonderful replica of PT-157 to honor it's skipper, Bud Liebenow. A complete book on this build is available at Amazon.com, and would no doubt assist you in any build. I also had a scratch built PT-117 done one year, because it was destroyed by enemy aircraft, so I wanted to honor those who served on her. certainly many choices, but it all depends on you.........................

I thought your PT117 was destroyed by enemy kitty cats? Ha Ha! No I didnt mean to imply if Robert was still alive, I just meant if he was still lurking around this message board! I am glad to hear he is recovering. Thanks for setting me straight! Jerry

Nope, PT-117 is still AOK, it was PT-109 that was attacked by those Kamakazi KITTY CATS. Needless to say, she is still in dry dock over at STAN's, and will be there for some time, awaiting restoration and some key upgrades. I didn't think you meant Bobby was not alive, just giving you an update on him..........SMOOTH SAILING.

Hello everybody,
I'm a new member, I'm scratch building a 1/12th 80" ELCO PT boat, it'll be nearly 7 ft long.
Just finished hull drawing, now starting on 68 bulkhead frames, I'm building it upside down exactly as they did in Bayonne NJ, I post some pics from time to time
