Can anyone tell me if Ron 6 was based at Tulagi during the Cuadalcannel action? Also were they stationed there until their relocation to Tufi? It appears that an advance party was being used to find a site in New Guinea on 13 Dec., 42, but were the rest of the boats still at Tulagi? Or were they being moved throgh Cairns and up to Milne Bay?

David;
RON 6 DIV 17 was commanded by LT. Daniel S. Baughman, this was the group that went to Tufi, New Guinea(This group consisted of PT 113, 114(originally, RON 2 boats), 119, 120, 121, and 122). These boats were absorbed by RON 8 on April 1, 1943.
The RON 6 boats that stayed at Tulagi were commanded by LT. Clark W. Faulkner(This group consisted of PT 115, 116, 117, 118, 123, 124, 125, and 126. later in May 1943 PT 187,188, and 189 were transferred from RON 12 to RON 6.), this RON remained in the Solomons until it was decommissioned in May 1944 and its boats were transferred to other RON's. RON 6 was based at Tulagi(arriving 12/31/42) , then Sealesville,Russell Islands, Lumbari/Rendova, Vella Lavella,Treasury, Bouganville, Green, and Emirau.
Welcome aboard!
Take care,

Dave;
The original Boats in New Guinea went to RON 8 on April 1, 1943( 113, 114, 120, 121, 122).
Ron 10 was transferred to New Guinea in April 1944. The RON 6 boats that went to RON 10 were PT 116, 124, AND 125.They were officially transfered to RON 10 on May 29, 1944. They were shipped to New Guinea sometime after this date, when RON 6 was decommissioned (on May 29, 1944).
Take care,
