During WWII, many of the small craft magazines (Yachting, MotorBoating, etc.) ran lots of ads by companies providing items to the PTs. While many of the photos used are commonplace to us now, every so often a gem will appear. Here's one from Motot Boating, July 1942.

Al,

Yes I have noticed the same. As for the Y gun< I will have to look at the drawings for the PTC. Seems that there would ned to be extra structure added to the deck to deal with the impact of the mortar firing to propel the depth charge.

I have over 200 PT BOAT ads and I bet if I went though them, I could find some pretty good shots. I have them boxed up and have not seen them in months.............

Al,

I have a 1943 Yachting mag, and you're right, it's just chock full of ads. I'll look through again and look for any that really stand out. ( I think I may still have one on photobucket for Danforth ).

Pat Matthews used to have a WWII PT ad link through HQ, but I notice it is no longer viable...

Does anyone have information on how this worked? (powder vs. compression, fired etc…). Also, does anyone have a list of what boats they were installed on and a blueprint? Thanks, Mark

Black powder charge. In fact, the impulse charge holder looks suspiciously like that used on the MK18 torpedo tube.

The Y guns were to be fitted to the twelve 70' ELCO PTCs. The only identifiable photos I've seen that show the Y guns mounted are of PTC1. I don't know if they were actually fitted to any of the other boats.

PTC1-4 ran trials off Miami with Bob Kelly, who determined that the concept wouldn't work and all twelve PTCs were turned over to the RN, which turned them into MGBs.
