Higgins 30cal question

Were the 30cals on Higgins boats belt fed or side canister fed ? I have two pictures but they are not loaded. Thanks, Mark

The upper photo with the semi-oval shaped magazine is a .50 calibre M2 while the lower photo is of a .30 calibre.
