Bob,

I'm probably coming in late in the game, but where is the PT located and how long have you been working on it? What a wonderful project it must be. Congrats and can't wait to see more as work progresses.

The 305 is currently located across the street from the World War 2 museum in New Orleans. It is in an old machine shop. The museum is currently working on a restoration pavillion that we will move to in one year. The pavillion will have a glass wall facing the street so passerbys can see. It will also be air conditioned. The boat has been stripped of basically everythin except the wood. The rotten wood is being removed and some already replaced. We have also started to get ready to add the missing 15'. I just started volunteering a couple of months ago and have fallen in love with this project.

Engine room looking forward. Note the temp opening in the forward watertite bulkhead. This goes thru the old officers head forward. The rear watertite bulkhead was also opened up. Makes easier access fore and aft. I beleive this was done with the previous owners.

I am pretty sure I provided you folks with all of the Packard Manuals for your restoration build on the engines. I am in hopes that they have provided you with everything you have needed for any rebuilds. The photos look great. You guys have been doing a great job thus far. Keep us posted by all means.............

Frank,
I am not sure about the manuals. I am one of the wood guys. We have some very talented people on the engines. I will ask about the manuals next Saturday. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for posting the pics! And the link to the site. I was wondering if anyone had any pics of PT305 during its civilian life. Just thought it would be neat to see the vintage WWII pics, the converted fishing pics - how modified it was, and then the restoration pics. Thanks - Kent

Hi Ted,
I am pretty sure we provided some of those props to the 305 crew. Tom Czekanski came to Portland and returned to NO with several truckloads of PT boat parts. We have a pretty good working relationship with them via Jerry Strahan and Tom. We still have more equipment that we dont need that we will probably be giving to the guys in New Orleans as soon as we figure out transportation. We like to be able tp help them restore another Higgins PT boat! Jerry PT658. Portland

The New Orleans Times Picayune has a piece on the 305 and you can see the stark contrast between now and the photos contained in this thread.
