http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=1798

Hi there.

I don't know what the he** is going on but I am having a hard time getting my images to show up as thumbnails in my folder when I upload them and also when I try to include them in my post. I just tried adding 26 images to my post about my first PT boat rebuilding project. Of the 26 images I added to my post a total of 14 never appeared. All I got for those 14 images was an icon that I assume means a broken link. I very carefully changed the IMG in each instance it appeared to image but still no joy.

Why are some images appearing and others not even though I used the exact same process for each one?

I just looked in the folder where those links to the images are and all of the images I want to include in my post are there in thumbnail form. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks and cheers from Peter who is extremely frustrated right now.

I viewed your post and I counted 26 photo . . . .

The issue here is the number of photos and the response by the photo hosting site and this message board site.

Everyone should, limit the number of images in a single post. If you have a large amount, say over ten or twelve photos, split them up into a number posts. When adding lots of images two terrible things are happening. Some readers who don't have stellar high speed Internet access, have to wait and wait and wait for your post and images to load. Secondly, large numbers of images are taxing the servers where the photos are located, and taxing this website's servers to accept them and download them.

The post should ideally been divided into maybe two posts, or better, three posts. Just number the posts like:

My 1st 1/32 scale Lindberg PT Boat Rebuilding #1 of 3
My 1st 1/32 scale Lindberg PT Boat Rebuilding #2 of 3
My 1st 1/32 scale Lindberg PT Boat Rebuilding #3 of 3

The issues on your post, wasn’t any error in hyperlinks (coding), it was the server was just slowed down. Text always loads first because text requires very, very small amount of memory, and on the message board the text is store in the message board software. Whereas images are hosted by other computer servers, and images require a much, much larger amount of memory and storage. Finally the transfer time for the images across the entire Internet are always subject to various server congestion and the amount of traffic moving around on the net.

Hi there Dick.

Thanks for the information.

The last thing I want to do is cause any problems for either this board or the esteemed members of it. I thought that by having images of 100 Kbs or less in size would be okay. I see now that was incorrect. Is there any way I can split that post now? I am thinking about just editing it and taking out a number of images and then posting them in other follow-up posts as per your suggestion.

Thanks again form Peter

I wouldn't brother editing this post. Just keep in mind for other posts. This includes everyone who post - be kind to members/readers who do not have a high speed Internet connection like myself or others. This doesn't guaranty speedy download, slow servers at PhotoBucket, here, yours, and else where can effect the download speed.

Below are instruction to edit one's own posts:

Refer to images below.

1.) First click on the "Edit Post" button.
2.) A "Pop-up" window will open asking for your "Member Name" and your "Password". Then click the "Edit Post" button below the sign-in box.
3.) That pop-up box will disappear and a new "Message Pane" pop-up box will open, there you will be able to edit your post. If you like you can always copy the message to a word processor, edit your post text, then re-copy it back to the posting box.

Have a good one,
Dick . . .
