http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=1759

This is a picture of Ron 9. I believe it was taken about August 1943.
Can you help me identify others in this picture?

My father, Lt.(jg.) Hamlin Smith, is the back row 1st from the left.
Lt. Comdr. Hank Brantingham is first row 4th from the left.
It might be Lt. Comdr Robert Kelly in the back row 5th from the left.

Nat,

Don't know about Brantingham, but that's definitely Kelly in the back row center, arms folded and wearing an overseas cap.

OFFICER ON CDR. KELLY'S LEFT I BELIEVE IS LT. WILLIAM F. "BUD" LIEBENOW, SKIPPER OF PT 157.
TAKE CARE,

I sent this to Capt Liebenow yesterday to see if he can and would be able to fill in any names.

Captain Liebenow said "That is Kelly center standing, I am far right bottom row in over seas cap setting. Bud L"

In conversation today he seems to know more of them and will try and write them down this week.

I agree, a great set of RON 9 photos!

Yes, I just sent them off to Bud. I've asked if he can fill in any of the blanks of who's who so we'll see.

Thanks for the great Ron 9 images.
My earlier identification of Brantingham was based on the tipped-in photograph I found on the internet. The background image seems to have been taken at the same time as my earlier post.

This proves there are still plenty of PT boat pictures out there. Those are great pictures.

Victor
There are plenty of photos still around, I have many of them, but Number One, it takes plenty of work to try and get these small photos touched up so they can be blown up to at least a 5x7 or 8x10 for a book, and number two, many of the photos have no descriptions, so you have tons of research to hopefully find out who, what, and where they were taken. Group shots are nice if you can identify everyone in the photo.

Frank,
Nobody said writing a book is easy, also the money is not great. It is only a labor of love
that you can spend several years on it. So why did I do it? Years later I hope my daughter will
tell her friends, "My father wrote these two books."

Frank has done a great job of sharing the photographs he collects. I look over the Board to see what he is up to at least once a week.
Books, Museum displays, Photobucket accounts, PT Boats Board Forum posts are ALL great ways to share ... keep it up all of you. You are inspirations for me.

Nat;
Can you place them on boats?(ie: skipper PT 157, etc). Also, is that Wharton, Cal Wharton later in RON 34?
Take care,
