I was reminded of this drawing after seeing the April photo on the 2010 calendar from Headquarters. It was found in LCdr Edwin Polks' narrative
'Plywood Admiral'. And I thought you guys would like it.

It says "This is the ONLY South Pacific island that looked like what they show in Hollywood movies. Mios Woendi".

Before the base was built we transported a small group to check out the location. While there several of us on the boat crew hiked around the island on the sand beach. It is a tropical paradise. The temperature is moderate. Look up the location on Google Earth. There is a beautiful deep water lagoon. The distance from the lagoon entrance to Mios Woendi is about five miles. If someone would build a resort, I would sure like to be their first customer.

Have you guys been able to zoom in on this to see the detail ? I don't know how to make it larger. It does have some interesting notation on it.

I'm happy to try to make it better.

David,

Your photos would be nice to see, if you can't post them, email them to me and I will put them up on the board.

There are a couple very nice aerial photos of Mios Woendi Base on the Splinters Face Book,
they are on the last page of photos.
