Another proud Sailor that served with the Wooden Fleet has been called home. Rest assured he is once again taking his place at the Helm, with his Crew that has gone before him. He is facing the wind, bow high, Packards turning the Clouds to White Foam and keeping a sharp lookout, not for the enemy, but for the face of God..............

As Mr. Jones name was called off the Patrol roster, hopefully it went something like this. He stood on the pier waiting as his crew came ripping across the bay to bring THE SEA BAT pierside. he youthfully jumped on her deck once again, shook a few hands as the crew welcomed him home, took the wheel, and with her throttles in his hand, sped out to sea for his final patrol. Good Luck Skipper.

Rest in peace. I have records from my dad that says that the 133 and the 127 were at Kana Kopa . I was wondering if Paul was also with the 132.

Scott;
Yes PT132 was with PT127 and PT133 at Kana Kopa, Milne Bay, when they were originally with RON 7. 132 was transferred to RON 21 on 2/15/1945. 127 was transferred to RON 12 on 2/15/1945, and 133 was destroyed by an enemy shore battery on 7/15/1944.

I found this on line and thought I would post a link here. It is from a book on Alamo Scouts called Shadows in the Jungle. It would be interesting to know who the other two boats were.

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.

In response to the post inquiring which boats were with the 132 in Larry Alexander's book, Shadows in the Jungle, they were PTs 128 & 131.

Would anyone happen to have the patrol action reports for either 128, 131, 132 for 21-22 Jul 1944?

Thank you for the kind words about my Grandfather, Paul Jones. He will be greatly missed by many. Thank you also for the pictures, some of which I have not seen before, and the book link. If you have the date of the patrol discussed in the excerpt, I can check Paul's diary to see what other boats were with him that night. In his later years Paul became involved with the Ski Patrol here in Michigan as a patroller and an instructor. He was also a Red Cross instructor and is credited with five life saves. The people he instructed have gone on to instruct others and it is impossible to know how many people have been treated by someone he taught. His service in the Navy was only the beginning of his life of service to others. http://www.sullivanfuneraldirectors.com/_mgxroot/page_10789.php

Bless your grandfather's memory and his record of service, Rachel.

This seems to me to be the whole point of this message board: to honor the veterans who are with us and to bid farewell to those who have passed, to comfort their families and friends, with information, photos and words of support, to bring people together to remember the courage and sacrifice of the men of the PT boats.

As someone who drew comfort from similar messages sent when my father passed away I would like to thank the posters and the moderators. Your words help.
