Sharing some of my drawings
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=1687
Hi guys, I thought I would share some of the drawings I've been doing.
Shown are two Ron 29 boats, one with the Thunderbolt mount, one with a 40mm, ... one of the 191 in 1945, an Elco PTGB, a Higgins PTGB, three Higgins ...
I put them together and colorized them by using various PT drawing components Dick provided me with ... I assemble the components in the configuration I'm working on then add some of my own items, if needed, like the Thunderbolt and add color as needed.
I just wanted to share them and I realizes that there may be inaccuracies but I'm proud of my accomplishments ..........

Thanks, I know that they're perfect, but I did strive to get them as accurate as I could, but I'm certainly no artist and could never protray myself as one, but I tried.
My favorite is the 191 as she looked in late-44 into 1945.
I would like to think I NAILED that one .....

Well, the one on the Ron 29 boats and the 191 and on that first 77 footer are as close to the ones on the real boats as I could get.
The rest were done just to see if my hand could manulipate (sp?) the mouse well enough ...
The gray Higgins ones was what an English Channel based Higgins would looked like in my mind.
I'm sure it's incorrect.

Hey Garth-
The drawing are great! Perhaps you would like to take up a challenge? How about a RON-10 boat in zebra stripe camo?
I know that a lot of guys absolutely "hate" that measure, but there are others like myself that find the RON-10 boats very unique to the history of the Mosquito Fleet!
Can we see a RON-10 sketch from you in the near future? It would be kind of neat!
Thanks, Garth!

NO STRIPES PLEASE!!! I hate that scheme. Take a perfectly Beautiful ELCO BOAT and make her look like an AFRICAN ZEBRA. All kidding aside, the drawings look very nice for your first attempts. As you play with them and tweak them, you will be right on Historically. GOOD JOB.

Garth-
Just wanted to let you know that your Squadron PT Boats book played a very important part when it came to finishing and painting my PT-169 " ZEBRA SNAFU " from RON-10.
Yes, I know I threw you a curve ball with the RON-10 boats and it's a very difficult pattern to sketck out much less paint! My eyes were crossed for several days after painting her.
Thanks for your help on this one Garth!

Well, ... Right now?
I'm 'masking' the hull, using the model that Alex Johnson built for me as a 'guide' ... I think I've nailed it. My only concern is how I'm going to do the torpedo tubes ..........
Film at 11 ............
PT BOATS IN ACTION ............ My god ............. 1994, I was 34 ...........

Atta boy Garth! I commend you, and I know I speak for all of us here on the this ol' message board, for stepping up to the plate and taking a big swing at the RON-10 patterned boats. I for one think that the measure was very unique to the PT's, while there are others out there that think the pattern made the boats look like hell! I think if we took a vote, the results would be very close! Put me down as a Yeh, and Frank A. as a NAY and we'll start with that! This should be fun!

Actually Frank?
I've got say ... the system I'm using to mask the hull? It's actually easy to do ........... But, like I've said, the tubes are going to be a biatch to do.

I hear ya, Garth! I had the same problem with the old Lindberg kit tubes when I built the 169 almost 20 years ago. I used various widths of pin stripping tape to achive the effect both on the hull and tubes. I know you can't use tape for your computer generated images, but I'm possitive you'll come up with something clever!

Hey Frank,
I'm making headway on the Adaptor schemed boat. I can only work on it for a few minutes at a time, the stripes make me dizzy. But, at the risk of sounding cocky and conceded ... it's turning out pretty good ... I'm amazing myself.
DO NOT ask me to do a Ron 15 boat! This will be the only Adaptor scheme I will EVER do! Now, I know why it was only used for a short time.
Lordy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you guys know that a P-51 had a similar scheme.................

Hey Garth and Frank!
Your eyelids are getting heavier, you are going into a deep hypnotic state as you look at the pictures of the PT Boat adapter scheme! Now wake up when I snap my fingers and say PT Boats Forever! Jerry

It is a good thing I do not suffer from epileptic Fits, cause that second shot would set them off. It's bad enough that the first photo has wrecked a perfectly beautiful Elco Boat........Help...........

To quote Carmen Miranda .........
Now, cut that out.
Gimme a couple more days and I'll be done ..........
It's about 90-95% complete ............
I'm amazing myself here, ............. I'm finding it easy to do.
But, those darn stripes ..................... whoever dreamt that scheme up guys? Was a Sadist!
It's looking good though ............. I am amazed at how well the torpedo tubes came out ....
As soon as I'm done........... I'll email it to Dick and ask him to post it here. But, you guys better your visors.

Hiya Garth-
Just for spite, have Dick make up a giant wall sized poster of your newest RON-10 razzle dazzle zebra striped PT and send it to Frank A. from both of us!
I love Beech Nut fruit stripe gum, Kingston Trio striped shirts (and their music as well) , zebras, RON 10 boats, pinstripes on hot rods, just for starters!
Thanks Garth, from all those who JUST LOVE THOSE STRIPES!!

I am having trouble with my E-Mail at the moment, but the drawing looks pretty darn good. I think the guys who love those crazy Zebra stripes, like Frank R, will just go ga ga when they see it.

Funny Jerry, I love feeling my eyeballs crawl. Great image, thanks!
I once tried guessing measurements from a striped PT image but had to give up even though I would have been able to without the stripes. Edges just bled into each other. It actually made me giggle a bit.

Garth,
Think your zebra PT looks great. Hope you don't mind but I downloaded it and used it for the background on my desktop. Just a thought, but it would make one eye catching illustration for a cover on your next book.

Thanks Gary.
No, I don't mind. In fact, I have it as a background myself ...
As for using it in a book, no ......... and for a lot of reasons.
First, it's not accurate and not only that, when Dick gave me the hulls and weapons I'd need to do these 'paintings' ... I gave him my word that I would not use them to sell or for profit.
I just use them as confidence builders ...
AND, it would not go with my next book as it's on the Italian MAS boats and the next one after that will PROBABLY be on the USCG's 83 footers in WW2.

More Books? I thought you said you were giving up writing (ha, ha). I like the drawings very much, and I am happy you mentioned about not using them as you gave your word to Dick. Stepping on his toes would be like slapping your own Mother.........

Well, ..................
I don't know yet ........
I've got a few feelers out for employment ...........
But, if they don't pan out .......... It's book-writing city man.
And, I'm a man of my word ...... Besides, whereas the 'paintings' are 'good' ......... they're certainly not sell worthy.
