Henry Carey

I am looking for informaion on Henry Carey from Springfield, MA. According to his obit, he was a PT boat commander of PT 108. I need to verify this, or any information regarding Henry Carey for a book I am writing.

The PT Roster in KNIGHTS OF THE SEA lists a Henry B. Carey, but no other info.

Chris, you should ask EARL RICHMOND. He is a PT boat vet that regularly reads this board and was the Ships Cook on board, the PT108. So he would probably know for sure. Also are you aware of the Lil Duck PT108 website? I am unsure if it still works but Geary Sims used to run the site. He may have taken it down. I remember he was related to one of the former Captains who was KIA.

Thanks to everyone for the leads. I am writing a book about the young men from the Brightwood Section of Springfield MA who served in WWII. My father and five of his six brothers served. Henry Carey and his brother Thomas lived a few doors up the street from my father's family. Thomas served in the Army. My big regret is I waited until my father and uncles passed on (one brother still with us) to write the book. I was inspired by the military honors at my fathers burial. By then most all of the vets had passed onand all the information is now gleaned from military records and internet searches.
Oh well, TMI, but my thanks for the help.

I live in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Are you aware that Harold Marney. crewmember from PT-109 (Killed) was from East Springfield. Not much was ever knwon about the family, although he did have a brother that served. I have his original Navy Boot Camp Photo (and Newspaper clipping) that was given to me from a fellow that lived in Springfield. I was very fortunant to get the items, as there was no one left from his family to give them to. They proudly are a part of my Exhibit. Wish I had the time to do research on the Marney family.

Yea, I knew about Marney and was considering adding him to the book. Marney lived on Carew Street, and I grew up on Hungry Hill. If I can link Carey and Marney I can include him. I have conducted a limited research on him - and can share what I have with you.
There were several men rom Springfiled who played roles in significant "historical" events. Michael Arooth was a highly decorated areial gunner and another soldier (I believe Lt. Murphy) was involved in the raid on the Japanese POW camp at Cabanatuan which the book "Ghost Soldiers: The Forgotten Epic Story of World War II's Most Dramatic Mission. His squad fired the first shots during the raid.
