Just for the record, I know today is "VJ" anniversary. I can't find any news about this event in any of the media. How how we forget.

At least I still have my Toyota !

You book writers, keep writing so some ouf the WWll stories can be enjoyed by future generations and maybe they will learn a little about American History.

Love, Arthur

Problem is the Liberals have a problem with just about everything, so getting these things into the Newspapers can be tough. People seem to forget the cost so that they can sleep at night, eat a hearty meal, go to school, chose to work, live in a nice home, and do all those nice things wth their little kids on vacation. It is because of those who gave their all during WWII that all of these things I mention and many more can be afforded.

Would it have hurt those Liberals that run today's Newspapers to mention this all important date in History. What a shame to see what has become of our United States, and the people who live here. Most things are taken for granted, Liberals are running the Country, God has been taken from the Schools, and they are trying to remove his name from just about everything else. Is this what men like Arthur and so many others went to War for. I think not. If my uncle were here today (Killed in Sipan at age 19, serving with the Second Marine Division) he would be totally discusted. Such a shame, and it continues to get worse. I think if I hear one more Mom tell her demon child that if they continue to act up, they will get a time out, I will puke.

Today marks a date in which so many lost their lifes. It ended WWII and helped bring son's home to thier Mothers, Fathers to their Children, and kept the World free as we know it today. Too bad those Liberal Editors dont have the guts to run a full page story on what today meant some 64 years ago. Hell, we are lucky if they mention Pearl Harbor. Sorry to jump on my soapbox, but it just angers me how things are today. What are we teaching our children about WWII? They know more about computers, television, cell phones, and I-Pods then they do about WWII and why they are here to make the choices they do. WWII might just be forgoten about in the next 20 years or so, and ISN'T THAT A SHAME.........

Frank I agree with you wholeheartedly. I worry what our grand kids future will be in this country. We have got to get things turned around. Vote the liberal bast---- out.

Great transition to insanity guys. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President John F. Kennedy were world class liberals. Sergeant Alvin York was an avowed pacifist, and became the most decorated American soldier in WWI. Are theirs the liberal values you despise? Or do you prefer the values of Congressman Randy Cunningham, now serving a sentence in prison for being excessively conservative and greedy?

I'm sorry to see that some forum members aren't able to bite their tongue, as my conservative grandmother would say, and speak only when they have something worthwhile to say. I learned my liberal values from my father, and he flew Recon over the D-Day Invasion and for a year in Korea. How is it that against all the evidence, you can still be confused and mistaken about what it means to be a liberal?

I've begun volunteering as work crew on the Red Oak Victory Ship because I believe people need ever-present visual reminders of what sort of sacrifice and industry it takes to preserve democracy. Preserving a symbol of war doesn't conflict with my liberal values, and neither does supporting any war that preserves sanity. Don't forget that most wars are begun by people who despise another group of people.

Liberals run newspapers so that news is available to public. By your standard, a conservative newspaper with a budget to meet would reject news in favor of a redundant history lesson. The newspaper I read always manages to observe the WWII victory days on the same day the American people were told of the cease-fire. No one was dying two weeks later when the paperwork was signed. Why imply such a thing?

And it needs mentioning that when liberals were in charge of the curriculum, history and civics and science were important subjects. It's conservatives who have retreated to intelligent design and the Three Rs, reading writing and arithmetic. How is it that under the conservative regime of the past several Republican administrations, and Republican- dominated Congress during the Clinton administration, a majority of American school children didn't learn to find America on a globe of the world? It was a liberal idea that every American child should have a free education. It was conservative businessmen who preferred a young and uneducated work force. Before you decide to despise liberals, get your facts right.

Although you have chosen not to leave your name, I can only address you as Grandaughter. Your thoughts on this matter are very well taken indeed, and are very constructive and straight forward. It was a pleaure to read your response and I thank you for your input. As my non liberal grandfather used to say, "There are always two sides to every coin", be not afraid to listen to both sides of any discussion", but stick to your belief's if you feel you are right.

Regardless of what you and I believe in, the bottom line is VJ Day is non existant in our Newspaper where I live. I think thats a shame. In one of my Exhibits I had school children (ages 10, maybe 12) that did not know the participants in WWII, and one who actually asked who won. Is this the result of the no one left behind policy we have in our schools. This I think is a terrible shame. I suppose we could go on and on about Liberals and Conservatives, and I too could dig up tons of dirt about Liberal Politicians, but I prefer to put this to bed. Again, I appreciate your reponse and your belief's, but as they say in Politics, We Have Bigger Fish To Fry". Thanks again Grandaughter..............

Agreed, Frank and Will.

Personally, I'll bestow my standard, (dis)honorary liberal title of "Marshmallow" (soft, white, sugary, of no nutritional value) to Granddaughter.

Unfortunately, millions of such "Marshmallows" voted our current socialist government in, God help us.

That's all I have to say about that.

As the son of someone who was in the Philippines on the day in question, awaiting orders to invade Japan, I will resist using naval slang, but I know that my dad would have given a hearty bronx cheer to the ‘patriotic’ anti-liberal opinions expressed above.

I assume that you would include him, in PT boats in the Pacific , ’43-45, decorated (bronze star) and a life long liberal (FDR voting, civil rights supporter) in your diatribes. Why do you assume that all the veterans that this site celebrates were 100% Republicans? Conservatives, Liberals and even Socialists fought and died in World War II. Surely they all deserve our respect? Why bring politics into it?

Yes it is a sad indictment of our present generation that VJ day passes with little notice-but you are way off target. As time goes on and the veterans are fewer and fewer we need to honor them with the dignity that they deserve, rather than trying to score petty partisan points.

I suggest anti-liberal posters have a read of the sermon by USMC chaplain Roland Gittlesohn given at the dedication of the 5th Marine Division Cemetery, Iwo Jima in March 1945.

People, back off! This is a historical, not a political forem. I am sure those who served and gave their lives for the freedoms we all enjoy and value were from all points of the political compass. Focus on all we value. Keeping alive the vision of those who pushed the throttles forward and drove the attack to "fire one!"

Well said Steve! This sort of thing has led to trouble before, we know what is lacking out there, especially those of us who have served and those of us that are still in. We know where it belongs.....out there not in here.
