Squadron 22 was in the Med. We enjoyed Navy base Mess Halls and only had snacks on the boat and of course plenty of hot coffee.

After VE Day, the Navy gave our food rations to the local French restaurants at Cape de Antibes and we had all our meals served to us from May t through June after which time we were on our way home to the USA via Oran, Africa.

Fresh French bread and Spam was my favoite snack. The rest of the crew thought I was nuts. To this poor kid from the slums of Cambridge, Spam on fresh French bread with plenty of butter was a treat. It is to this day.

Don't forget, I got sea sick all the time. Therefore I had six meals a day, three down and three up. Don't knock it. You never saw a fat sailor. Wish I could say the samething for me right now. Bring on the Spam and rough seas.

Sincerely, Arhtur John Frongello QM3/C PT 302, Ron 22
