Hi all,
As im still having no luck, finding any solid information on my Grandfather, ive decided to go back and start at the beginning of his service.
Does anyone on the board know how i could find any info about San Diego N.T.S.Would they have enrolment records and or class photos do you think??
He joined up on 24th September 1942,and his first station was MTB Four (USN 715),which i believe was Cairns Australia. His rate was AS then S2c then F3c,F2c,F1c and MoMM3c(T)
I dont know how long it takes to advance to the next rate but i think he must have been a Fireman by the time he got to Bases 4 & 6.
Ive found a couple of pictures of Classes at the N.T.S.but without names.
Any ideas Fellas?
Cheers

Michael

At San Diego pictures were taken of my boot camp company and and QM class. Prints were available to all who wanted to buy one. If we wanted names on them we had to write them on the print. I do not know whether the navy or a professional photographer operated the business. My copies have no identification of the photographer. It may be almost impossible to find the pictures that you are looking for.

Michael, I have all my navy recorda of the different assignments of my entire enlistment. I don't remember to whom I sent a request to. I know that any relative can request a copy. Perhaps someone on this board could tell you how to do it.
However you may have a tough time because you may not be able to prove that you are a relative.
I hope someone can help you .

I can not help with identification, but perhaps someone could zoom in on the chief's patch to see if he is a machinist mate. I notice that several of the men have left arm rates which indicates at least third class petty officer.

Michael: In addition to the discharge certificate, the discharge records should have included another document listing permanent assignments, medals earned and rate at time of discharge. Regarding the attached picture, do you have the original print? On my pictures from San Diego I wrote every mans name on the back.

Thanks QM,
Yes on the separation papers it lists his stations and his rate at discharge which was MoMM3c(T) and his last station was LST 452.I have contacted the LST Organisation but no luck there either.Hes a Mystery Man ! Its very hard to search from over here too,if i was in the States id be visiting the Government Departments, but ill do my best from here.
As for the photo i got that off the net,i suppose i could try and find the owner and see if they have any further info on it.
Thanks for listening though,
I have an entry in this issue of All Hands so hopefully something comes from that too.Heres Hopeing!!
Cheers Mate
