Dick - was there any further information available do you know describing the outcome of this trial?

Information you have shared with us here relating to a specific atrocity by the forces of Imperial Japan is a reminder to us all how important, no, how vital was the contribution of all those who served in the Pacific theater of operations to keep people of my generation (b 1947) safe from harm. When I was in my teens I was very fortunate to be able to enjoy my life away from harm or threats of invasion.
It didn't just happen that way - my, generation - the lucky generation - were able to live our lives in relative peace because young men from the previous generation put their lives on the line and survived to give us life and the others who made the ultimate sacrifice to allow us to be free of fear and to persue our ambitions.

Thank you.

Bruce

There is an excellent detailed story of Palawan on the history net, see the link below. I also remember seeing a movie or re-enactment of it, but for the life of me I can't remember where or what.

Bruce, this is why the people of Australia are forever grateful to the American and Australian forces who protected this country from a tyranical government, hell bent on destruction. These sort of atrocities are well known to Australians. We were so very close to invasion by these murderers.
So is it any wonder that i am so very very proud to have family ties to both the Australian and American Peoples.
The men that served in their respective forces, not only deserve medals but also deserve our utmost respect and appreciation, for without them we are nothing.

Dick, you probably saw the depiction of the "Palawan Massacre" in the movie "The Great Raid," which came out in 2005.

The miraculous escape of several of the prisoners from this atrocity and their recounting of it to Allied authorities sparked the rescue mission by U.S. Army Rangers, aided by Fillipino guerillas, of prisoners at the Japanese prison camp at Cabanatuan, Phillipines.

The "Palawan Massacre" incident opened the movie.

Dick - thank you for the link. It's very informitive.
The tatty outcome of the trials against the Japanese responible for the atrocity that was the Palawan Massacre was repeated many times where justice for those who suffered at the hands of Japanese was denied due to political expedience. In many ways no people are treated more shamefully by their own governments than the hero's of war.

Our late arrival - our son, Bobby, 21 - is the same age as many seasoned military personel fighting in the Pacific - elsewhere to. Unlike many of his contemporaries he is aware of the sacrifices made in the region of the world where he lives by young men serving to protect his forbears. Fortunately he is respectful of this and I am glad of that. I believe that it is the responsibility of each generation to carry forward the story to the next. Not in anyway vengeful or with hatred but with peace and respect mindful that young men of his grandfathers generation answered the call so he doesn't have to.
