OH NO, I am on a roll Here. I finally found some time to pull out the diorama and take some quick shots of her. These are the F.E.M.U. Barge Diorama photos I promised. They are not very good as the flash makes things look too bright and the colors too vivid, but here they are:

Shalom Frank.

That lokos fantastic. Here's an old photographer's trick. You can tone down the flash by putting some white tissue paper over it. This also helps to diffuse the light and cuts down on harsh shadows. You'll need to experiment with how many layers of tissue to use to get the effect you want.

Cheers from Peter

Pete

Thanks for the tip. I will try that next time I try to shoot. I am having an Elco Crane built using PT 105 in the cradle in 1/72 scale, so the tissue trick will come in handy when I get to shoot that one.

Frank;
Nice diorama, Looks like alot of time was spent on that one. It also looks like alot of my 1/72nd scale crew was later transferred to your area of operations.
Take care,

Looking good Frank.

You used the WEM stuff on it?

Hey Frank-

Thanks very much for posting the shots of the FEMU on the message board. The pictures look fantastic!

But I gotta ask! Is this diorama your own work or did you comission someone to build it for your museum display. If you did this or had a hand in it, I want to applaude your talents! Nice job!

Frank & Garth

No I must say that I did not build the Diorama. I pretty much knew how it was to be set up and the effect I wanted, but my good friend Stan Pienkowski did it for the Exhibit. Stan pretty much does all my work, except for my other good pal Alex Johnson who built PT 41. Garth, I do not know what paints Stan used on the piece. The Diorama looks ten times better in person, and has a wonderful effect when people see it in the Exhibit.

I wanted to show visitors a rare look into the FEMU Barges and the work they performed while on Station. This is a group of guys we never talk about, yet they performed their jobs very well from what I am told, and provided the boats with everything they needed in the forward areas.

Nice Frank, and especially so being being verified as a real slice in time by Earl. I look forward to seeing your crane diorama.

Garth

I spoke with Stan about the fittings on the boats in the Diorama. The 40MM, 27MM, Roll off racks, and Torpedoes were scrratch built. I never remembered buying anything, so Stan was right. The Elco Crane Project will all be scratch built except for the 1/72 scale boat............
