http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=1208

I have had these photos of Russ so I scanned them, sent them to my good friend Dick who has posted them here. I hope they will provide great memories for Russ and other's who served with Ron 12.

Enjoy,
Frank

Great photos!

Russ, is that a fold-down seat and stand along the inside of the cockpit (right behind your right arm, in that shot of you at the wheel)?

Drew, I really do not recall any fold down seat being on the boat. However, if you look at the seat in question, it looks like your knees would be against the wheel if it was lowered.
I just don't ever seeing sitting at the wheel.
Do you see it as I see it ??

Thank you guys, really great photos. I bet that roll of toilet paper was like sheets of gold. How was the fishing there Russ?

Fishing wasn't so hot. We used hand grenades to fish with.

Russ, I checked a framing plan but it didn't show the object, But this shot has a good view, looks like it is a seat: http://www.pt171.org/PT171/FrankKassay/target25.html.

Russ, it could have been removed. It looks like it hangs on a horizontal plank and moveable. The 171 shot seems to have it farther back. I've no real clue though. Maybe someone else can shed some light.

I was always intrigued by one of the PT skippers, maybe it was the 105's Dick Keresey, who described his "little underway seat, at the rear of the cockpit..."

That sure looks like a little, folded-up, seat with a brace, or "leg" on it -- like an old-fashioned, fold-out wall ironing board -- on the inside of the 195's cockpit behind Russ, and it looks like this same seat, folded down, behind the 171's skipper in that shot of him in PT 171's cockpit.

Could this be "the little underway seat?" I always thought the "underway seat" they were talking about was the "bench" along the inside of the rear cockpit armor, but...

Man, the vintage PT photos that are posted on this site are GREAT! You're almost always learning something new about the boats.

Thanks, guys, and keep on posting those photos!

Jeff, It definitely looks like a seat. However, I have never seen anyone ever sit at the wheel. The picture of me was taken on the 195 boat, and as I said, it looks as though it is too close to the wheel.
I'm glad that you replied to my post because I was able to see the pictures that you posted in the link that you referred to. They are great !! Thanks

You're welcome Russ. I enjoyed them too.

Interesting Drew, it would seem the seat would fit the Captains description.
