Hi! Thanks for the new message board! I hope it all goes well!
I'm always looking for anyone who has history on the comings and goings of RON 10 and specifically the 169. My Dad, Clayton Carroll, was on board and I'm working on some history for his Grandkids! I did finally get confirmation about a friendly fire attack in December 1944 that my dad often talked about. It all came about because of the people involved in this organization! Thank you so much!

Judy,
Have you been able to contact any of the sailors who were on the 169? If not you should be able to get a roster with addresses and phone numbers from PT Inc. They supplied me with names and addresses of the guys on the 168 and I've had some contacts with them. Which was very gratifying.
If you will reply to me at my email address I can give you the name of a 2nd gen fellow whose dad was on the 168 and kept a day by day diary of his career during WWII. I can also give you some names and addresses of some others who were on the 169 and in RON 10. For privacy concerns I don't want to post them here.
Also, have you checked out the PT 171 web page? I can also tell you how to get copies of any surviving deck logs, plus action reports for specific boats.

Hi Judy,

While not exactly what you were looking for, PT169 is mentioned three times in PT171's deck log:

Hi Judy,

I am also a new 2nd gen member. My father was skipper of 170 during the Solomons campaigns - I am researching a lot of that now. I will be glad to keep an eye out for 169 actions/activities - suspect they were on patrol a lot together. Liz Falvey

I have a snapshot of what appears to be the officers of RON 10 in front of a quonset hut. It's pretty good quality but has no names on it. This would be in 1944-5 probably at Moratai or Halmarhara.
If anyone would like a copy let me know.

I've decided to model the 169 as my next PT Boat build. I would appeciate any input that might help me build it accurately. I plan on showing her as she looked in Jan of 1944.

Any help, especially about paint scheme or color, would be much appeciated.
Thanks,
Ed

Ahoy there Judy-

I have a shot of the actuall crew of the PT 169 that was sent to me by Dominic Mingalla (MING). I came to know Dom through my very good friend Bruce Hansbury who also served on the 169 as a torpedo man. Bruce was my neighbor back in New Jersey and my soul and inspiration in my PT boat model work! Thank you Bruce, and God bless you!

This shot also shows the chief head hunter on the Island of Tulagi!

I also have a very detailed diorama of the PT boat base Tulagi. I can send you copies of the diorama also if you wish!

If you are interested please contact me at-

Hi - my dad, Peter Wastrom, was on PT 169 base 17 in the PI. I have tons of pictures from his scrap book, but none are labeled. Would be happy to share them. Liisa Bacco

Hi Liisa....thank you for your reply! I would love to see any pictures you have of the crew of the 169. Do you know what years your Dad served on the 169? My e-mail is jbirk@wavecable.com. You can write me there and I could give you my home address, or you could just e-mail pictures. I will look and see if I have pictures of your Dad. My dad labeled most of his pictures with first or last names!
Thanks again.

Hiya Judy-

I have been trying to get a hold of you. I e-mailed you quite a while back, however I did not get a reply back from you. I also posted on the message board that I need for you to get a hold of me.

I have in my collection a fuzzy photograph of the crew of the 169 that was given to me by my good friend Henry "BRUCE" Hansbury. This photo is very unique because also in this photograph, front and center, is a shot of the former headhunter on Tulagi. Bruce served on the 169 at Tulagi.

If you still want a copy, it's yours for the asking! All I ask in return is any of your photos of the 169 and RON 10. Also anyone else who would like this shot, just let me know in exchange for anything relating to the 169 and RON 10. It's that simple!

Here is my e-mail address-
