G'day from Oz.

On behalf of his daughter I am looking for information about David Winton Cheong, who was an Australian citizen and served with your PT Boats from 1941 to 1945 in the Pacific Theatre of War.

David was an engineer by profession, and although too old to serve with the Australian Imperial Forces, his knowledge of aircraft engines enabled him to join the American Navy in some capacity, and with PT Boats in particular.

Would appreciate any information on him, or advice on how to research his history with American Forces.

Regards
Greg Tommasi

Gidday Greg,
Have you contacted the Australian War Memorial.I just did a quick search for David Winton Cheong and found nothing, but as you say he was too old for service with the AIF, however they might have records on Civilian participation during the war.The website is,

http://www.awm.gov.au/

Otherwise contact ptboats@ptboats.org and Alyce might be able to give you some info?
The blokes on this board are great and have plenty of knowledge,so if they can they will be a big help too.

By the way im a fellow Aussie in Brisbane, feel free to contact me if you wish as i am also doing research on my American PT Links too.
My email is
mhallinan2@bigpond.com

Cheers Mate,

Michael
