Hiya Pete and Peter Tare-

Thanks for posting this! My locale hobby shop has still not been able to order this set of figures for me? I tried to contact Italerie-no dice!! I'll keep bugging my hobby shop though! The figures look fantastic!

The finished shots on the cover of the box for the figures also looks fantastic. Whoever painted the boat did a bang up weathering job on the model!

The crews sets are available at hobby suppliers in Europe. I would imagine they would appear in the US within the next 30 days or so if not sooner.

How do you guys feel about adding the figures to the boat. Ya know for so long figures were not available. I would say 95% of all the boats I have seen have no Crew. Do you think adding the Crew would enhance the boat or detract from what we are used to seeing ( which is a boat with no Crew onboard...............

PERSONALLY, I'VE FOUND THAT ADDING A FEW FIGURES GIVES THE MODEL A SENSE OF SCALE. MOST PEOPLE CAN RELATE TO SOMETHING IN RELATION TO THEIR HEIGHT OR LENGTH OF ARMS OR LEGS. THE BASIC COMMENT HEARD AFTERWARDS IS " GEEZ! THATS BIG."

Hi Frank.

Adding crew figures to the boat can do two things depending on the poses selected.

You can have the crew at action stations engaging enemy forces.

Or you can have the crew posed in relaxed poses such as PT-115 where some of the crew are sitting with their legs over the bow and other crew mmbers are sitting on the torpedo tubes.

Either set uo can tell a good story at a glance as well as create an appreciation of the size of the actual boat.

Thanks guys, I think putting the figures on would certainly help to show how large a 40MM was, or a 20MM, or the lenth of a Torpedo. Looking at it along those terms, I think my next project ( which is PT 374 ) would look good with figures, provided I can get someone to paint them. Figures are one of the hardest things to create in terms of authenticity, color and realism. I could not get over how some figures look when painted correctly using the right paint, the right shade and so on. Some guys are very talented. I do not want to have the boat look awesome, but lose the over-all look because the figures look funky..............

Hiya guys-

I'd just like to add my 2 cents worth to this discussion! I agree wholeheartedly with everybody about adding figures to a model, ANY type of model for that fact. But never, ever just put one figure on a model. I agree with PTbuilder about putting action in figures.

On my R/C 169 when shes on the pond and the sun gleaming off the water and her wake and all, it's a beautiful sight! My 196 also has figures on her in various stages from relaxed to at the ready.

I'm a very frugal model builder. I said frugal, I didn't say CHEAP! I have bags of green army guy figures that I will cut apart and reassemble into any pose I want. I carve away the unwanted stuff and have even went so far as to make some of my figures shirtless! A bag of green army guys runs a $1.00 at the Everythings a Buck stores all over the place. When you go and before you purchase bring a scale ruler ruler with you. Most of the green army guys run in either 1/48th scale or 1/32nd scale, HONEST!!

I will invest in good sets of figures say Dragon, Italerie and Tamiyas when I'm doing a close up scene but for fill ins such on my diorama I go with the green army re-dos. I have even spruced up the Lindberg figures (they are God awful) with new arms and heads and such. You are limited to yoiur imagation!! The better figure sets go for $8 -$15 dollars for half a dozen or less. The green army guys are 60 or so for a BUCK!!! Go figure!!!

Can someone comment on the Lion Roar photo-etch kit for this Italeri model? It looks to be just as expensive as the model itself. Is it worth it?

Saw the figure's at the Scale Model Worlds show at Telford last weekend. yes they are nice looking figure's.
reasonable poses & nice detailing on the clothing etc.
They were selling for Ł11.95 from about 3 different sellers so that looks like the going rate over here.
Would look good on the PT boat.
