Jeff, my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. My wife and her siblings share in your grief with the recent passing of their dad on May 30, '08 in Naples, Fla. His name was Charles F. Ridewood, Jr. ("Chas" as he was known), and he served on PT-236 as a Motor Machinist's Mate for the entire duration of her wartime service exclusive of the time during which he was hospitalized with malaria. I know that he had attended a number of PT Boaters' reunions, so I thought that this would be a proper forum to pass along the word to those who may have known him/served with him. He was 85, and along with your dad (and mine), a member of what is truly the greatest generation of Americans. May God grant them eternal comfort and rest with Him.

Very sorry to hear of your wife's Father passing on. The stories these men have shared with us are so very important to future generations. I can only suggest that those of you who have relatives that served on PT Boats, Bases, or Tenders, try to tape them. Let them share their stories on Film or Audio Tape. It is very inexpensive to go to Radio Shack or Circut City, and buy a Digital Recorder ( I think I paid $69.00 on sale ). I have used it to record some PT BOATERS, including the last survivor of PT 109 & PT 59. Maurice Kowal. Their stories will be with your familes for years to come. Add this to some photo's they may have, and you have a nice piece of History............
