Even on dry land dangers lurk for the unwary rc boater . Our Spaniel never damages anything but he loves cars and he will immediately jump into any car whenever a door opens. Last week I hadn't even fully opened the rear door of the car when he jumped in and landed on my PT boat. Fortunately, the damage was not too bad (a broken gun, toe rail and vent) and could be fixed easlily.

I haven't even mentioned the damage children and cleaning ladies can inflict ..

Arjan

Arjan,

My dog didn't bother my models when I was a kid, but my two little brothers sure did when I was at football or baseball practice, or at after-school jobs. They'd break into my room, play with the carefully-built and painted models, and break them, claiming complete innocence when I discovered broken or missing parts!

And one of those models, was, of course, the Revell 1/72nd scale PT 109.

Arjan your dog looks ready to retrieve your boat for you! Cool pic although a bit scary.

Ah yes, dogs and the notorious little brothers. I think Frank has some cat stories too. My worst was a sister that slammed a door hard enough to knock a picture off the wall and onto a big stick and tissue Boeing Peashooter I had done a really nice job on and was scheduled for its maiden flight the next weekend. It was a total wreck.

Since we are taking a trip down memory lane , I bet that as a child many of you also had battery operated toy boats . I had one of these in the sixties, made by Geobra, a toy manufacturer based in former East Germany (GDR) :

Nowadays these vintage toys sell at crazy prices on ebay.

A nice French site with vintage toy boats from the sixties :

Arjan;
Nice boats! Hey that female figure on the mahogany runabout looks a lot like Kate Jackson from Charlie’s Angels!
Take care,
TED

Hi Ted, it's a 9 inch action figure of a certain Helena Harper (I don't know anything about this character). I had to disarm her and calm her down a bit :

The runabout with the outboard is probably my nicest looking boat but unfortunately it's made of thick glass fiber and it's simply too heavy for the brushless outboard..

Some pics of today's outing, it was a bit nippy (9 degrees centigrade). I'm very pleased with my current brushless setup of the PT 596 model.

Arjan,

Your beautiful late-war 80' Elco model certainly looks very seaworthy.

Now crew her with some figures, arm her with some Mark XIII torpedoes, and she'll be ready for RC combat patrols!

Thanks Drew, that is indeed the plan for the next outing. Pity though that in real life PT 596 never fired a single round in anger .

Arjan
