Well, it came today. All 5.38 pounds of it via USPS Media Mail, and I'm certain they lost money on shipping ($3.99)
After a semi-exhaustive search on the Internet I found a copy listed on AbeBooks.com, and the seller was Half Price Books in Dallas. Cost $123.36 plus the aforementioned shipping.
I think the descriptions of the book by other forum members are too conservative in their praise..... This title is large, heavy, with textured leather-like covers embossed in silver plate which makes the knight on the cover look like polished pewter. The pages are quality heavy glossy stock.
The condition was listed as "good", but I think it's "very good". The binding is tight, only a few pages have very minor stains (Galley coffee?), and the whole seems like a fantastic bargain.
For those who are as unfamiliar with the book as I am, I've attached three pages from within, and of course we find our own ubiquitous Al Ross II has lent his elegant drafting skills to the production of this book.
Thanks to all of you who made me aware of this title!
Cheers!

Bob;
Your previous statement: "I'm having some difficulty understanding why this book sells for $175 or $200"
Now you understand why. This is the greatest book by PT veterans for PT veterans ever. Imagine, they(PTHQ) only printed the bios of the veterans that answered their open request for a bio. Imagine if all the surviving PT veterans in 1980 sent in a bio, the book would resemble a pulpit bible.
Enjoy yours, I didn't even put my copy down for a week, after I received it..
Take care

On the cataloging in data page it's stated that only 2000 copies were printed...and my copy is #_____________ (blank)
Are only some of these numbered?
Cheers!

I thought they were all numbered. Mine are #451 and #1741. #451 is the one with my name and squadron numbers embossed on the front.

Hi Jerry,
Yes, Page 4 is what I referenced above: just a blank after the "2000 copies" statement. Still, I don't feel the book is less valuable. By way of contrast, I have the Turner Publishing book on the USS Kidd, DD661, which is about 1/4 the thickness of this Turner book. Great value!
Cheers!
