Dick,
That is fantastic information. If you have those photos, you can email them to me if it's not too much trouble, at: Greekcop2160@sbcglobal.net. I'm going to see what I can find online also, and am going to work on possibly setting up a vacation for Newport. Hopefully I can swing it this year. We'll see.

Dick-
Thank you for all the info. You guys are a big help. I am an avid boater as well as a PT Boat brat. I have a 28ft. Rinker Cabin Cruiser and would definitely enjoy any photos sent to me and a possible trip to Newport.

I found this site to be very interesting. It gives a very detailed history of the base.

Greg,
The PT museum on the battleship in Fall River, Ma. is worth the trip. As far as getting on the boats, if you're a member of PT Boat Inc. all you need to do is show them your membership card and they will let you on. It's a good take. Prepare to spend severql hours there.

Ray-
That sounds wonderful about the Battleship Museum. I can only hope to be able to get the time, to go to Fall River andMelville this August or September. If not, I am going to gather up photos to have for now and plan on the trip either this year or next season. I do have to say one thing to anyone who reads this: At the sake of sounding mushy, you guys (fellow members of PT Boats Inc.) that are sons of PT Boaters like me, or Grandsons, or enthusiasts, or actual PT men, you guys are so helpful as far as information being relayed to each other. I am so proud to be a part of this very wonderful and caring organization! We are much like an actual crew, but even more like a family I think. I will keep it short. I just had to say my piece, because I am so happy and impressed by everyone who helps each other with the information.

Greg:
You can join PT BOATS INC right online or by telephone and Credit Card. That way, by the time you do make a trip to FALL RIVER and BATTLESHIP COVE, you will have your membership card and you can make arrangements with Don Shannon ( PT BOAT COORDINATOR ), who will have someone there the day you are expected to be there. Expect to spend a good deal of time at BATTELESHIP COVE, for they have the USS MASSACHUSETTS, a destroyer, submarine, soviet patrol craft, and of course my favories, the Elco Pt Boat, and the Higgins PT Boat. Also, they have a wonderful array of PT BOAT collectibles below decks on the USS MASSACHUSETTS.
I think the last time I was there, I spent a good 5 to 6 hours on site. There is much to see for sure. With your membership, you can board both the Elco and the Higgins boats ( double check about the Higgins ) because I could not get onboard due to work being done on her. They have a nice ships store on site as well as a few nice Resturants in the area. They do have a good SNACK SHOP on the USS MASSACHUSETTS where you can sit and enjoy lunch, amd one outdoors with picnic tables. Hope you have a great time if you go. You will not be disapointed. By the way, I agree with your write up on everyone getting along on this site. We are to some degree one big happy family with one thing in common. WE LOVE PT BOATS............
