Sad day today for me as I learnt last night that MGB 86 PTC 5 no longer exists, sad for me but good news for my bank account perhaps. I understand that she lay at a mooring in Swanscombe Kent following the fire at Hoo Marina where three people died, she then must have been towed to Swanscombe and then owner lived on board. It seems after some indiscretions, he left to live in a big house and the boat was lost to fire. I do not know if this was deliberate or accidental, whichever it may be she was lost forever to the mud. Such a sad end for both me and her, all I have left is my memories of a great ship that was in incredible original condition. Fortunately I am still able to picture the layout as I walked through her every day. So it is farewell to Elco MGB 86 forever. Seems all I have left is the picture my Father painted for me of her on active service. If any of you out there know of another still existing either in the UK or America, please let me know, if I am able to visit and drool. Again if any of you have a picture of her why I last knew her well at Gravesend Canal Basin, please let me know. Farewell Elco MGB 86. Simon

Ref. PTC5 MGB 86.
My Wife's late Father Edwin Hallott of Nottingham served in WWII on MGB 86 as POMtrMch. He spoke very fondly of his time on board and of the scrapes they used to get into and the near misses and engagemant; though rarely expanded on this. My Wife might recall some of his stories; I'll ask her.
We have a couple of old photos of what may well be MGB 86 and I will attempt to post them if this is possible.
Simon if you could let me have your e-mail address I will e-mail the photos over to you and likewise if you have any photos of MGB 86 we would really appreciate you sending some back. Did you ever establish her final resting place and fate ?.

Hi Juedu2,
My Wife's Father Edwin Hallott served on MGB 86 in WWII. I am interested to find MGB 86's last mooring site to visit and take a photo of the area.
You mention in your post I have made some enquiries at the peninsular and have been given a name for a guy that would know the story from the canal basin to her final days at swanscombe
Can you recall who you spoke with at the peninsular and the name of the guy who would know the story from the canal basin to Swanscombe ?.
Is there a canal basin at Swanscombe ?; I understand her last mooring site was Swanscombe Creek ?.
Many thanks, Simon
