Outstanding Stu. That weathering is way way out of my league ! You really hit me with a reality check.

Roy, It's not that difficult. You start off (airbrush) painting the boat a light version of your main color, then go into all the areas that would be in shadow and the edges of all panels and hatches with black. You then highlight the centre of the panels and hatches with white. I went over the whole model with light mottling like a luftwaffe aircraft. When you paint the main color you want this high and low lighting faintly showing through. The armour guys use this method and call it 'color modulation'
There are a few tutorials on the web. Give it a go.

Best Regards,
Stu.

Stu, you did a wonderful job on this boat. I enjoyed watching her progress, simply beautiful. No many attempt the weathering of the boats, and yours is awesome. I am going to find where you live, and come and pick it up for my Exhibit. Just be sure your not home at the time, I'm too old to fight.

Frank,
Fat chance, I don't get out much

Best Regards,
Stu.

Stu,

Great work! I think you've really captured the look of the boat as she was when shipped overseas.

I had to give it the old College try Stu. I would love to see that same weathering process on one of the green PT BOATS, to see how it would look. Many boats including the ones done for me, are all wonderful, but lack the weathering that makes the boats look like that "In the Field look". My dear friend, Alex Johnson was the only model builder that did weathering on one of the boats he made for me. PT-374 had that in the Pacific look to it, when Alex got finished with it. I think many of the model guys are not to sure what to do when it comes to weathering, as that in itself is an art.

Bob Butler, who is doing PT-302 for me, will be weathering the boat , so I look forward to see how he does this. Sometimes it can make or break a project. Another good friend of mine has been working on 19 figures for a project Stan Piekowski will be working on for my Exhibit. It is really something to see how he paints these 1/35 figures. May of them have no shirts on with shorts, and to see how he makes them look like they have been out in the Pacific for a time is really something, I mean he paints in sweat marks on the uniforms, and makes the eyes look so real. I am always blown away when I see the work you model guys perform.

You got it Stu!
Prize winning!

People that know me know that I love a weathered look. .Looking at this draws the viewers in. It says this was real boat and real sailors served on it.

I'm truly inspired.

P.S. Especially love the worn look on the bottom of the hull.

Thanks, Guys.
Jeff suggests that I add a few words on how I did the weathering on the build page so I am working on it.

Best Regards,
Stu.

A brilliant finish to a stunning and informative build Stuart. If my 490 turns out half as good I'll be overjoyed.
