You mean that the International Plastic Modeller's Society will NOT allow a styrene radio-controlled model such as the 1/32 scale Lindberg PT boat or either the 1/35 Italeri PT109 or Italeri PT-596 boats ONLY because they are radio-controlled? Pardon me but that is just plain stupid in my opinion since you can't see the radio-control stuff inside the hull when the deck and cabins on. If this is the case and styrene radio-controlled models are not allowed then IPMS should change their name to ISDPMS for International Static Display Modeller's Society.
I bet the lose a lot of propective members because of that no radio-controlled models allowed rule.
Cheers

Time out on the field!
Okay, I decided to review the IPMS competition rules. They are clear but individual contests word it differently. The use of plastic is encouraged but not required. Models are judged on their fit and finish. So if your R/C boat has the best fit and finish compared to the other entries you would win. You can't throw out R/C because many dioramas and models incorporate different electronic effects. I know I've seen R/C tanks.
That said recognize that 99.99% of the entries are from plastic model kits. I'm going to drop Carl Musselman a line and ask him to weigh in since he has been a judge for a while now and can give better insight on this than me.

Roy,
I for one would love to spend about 10 hours drooling over the 623 Boat, and taking a few 1,000 detail photos - I think you should bring it to the NATS this year and let everyone see your beautiful workmanship.

I heard back from Carl Musselman and Tony Bunch, and we all agree after reviewing the rules that it is not required that a model be made of plastic.

I have had the chance to go to several of these events, mostly to set up a few of my PT BOATS as display only. I could enter any one of them, but I do not ever take them out of the cases. I have seen several RC entered boats of all types, although not one ever won anything. I just feel that judges seem to by pass these entries, mostly because of slim details on a large RC boat. Although this would not be the case with Roy's wonderful model, I have learned that for some reason these large scale RC models do not fair well in the winners bracket., at least in the contest's in my area............

Well guys thank you so much for the continued kind words about my project. I will give the event some thought and look for the details on the web. By then, I'll have the barge done and if it's only going to go for show, well heck, lets take a barge full of Japanese soldiers as well.
