A little on VT14:

VT-14 was established on 1 September 1943 at NAS Quonset Point and deployed to the Pacific for combat aboard USS Wasp (CV-18) on 10 January 1944, remaining aboard until replaced by VT-81 at the end of October 1944. You might want to look at a Wasp history: http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/w3/wasp-ix.htm

Prior to going aboard Wasp, VT-14 was stationed at various east coast air stations while training and working up for deployment - amongst these: NAS Quonset Point (September 1943 & December 1943), NAAS Charlestown (October 1943), and NAS Hyannis (November 1943).

After relief by VT-81 and following a period of stand down and leave, the squadron was reformed on 1 Jan 1945 at NAS San Diego and by mid-month was operating out of NAAF Ream Field at Otay Mesa where it remained until the end of June 1945 when it moved back to NAS San Diego to prepare for movement to the combat theater. By mid-July VT-14 was stationed at NAS Kahului on the island of Maui where it remained until the end of the war.

This matches up with a muster report that he (and probably everyone else in the squadron) was a passenger on the USS Nicollet (AVS-6), an Aviation Stores Issue Ship on the way to Kahului in July 1945.

As far as Composite Squadron 8, it looks like it was formed in 1951.

Haven't found VT-59 yet.

So far, looks like VT-59 is a typo.

Robert Jankowski, the early years:

Arrived at Naval Air Gunnery School, Hollywood (Miami) FL 8 August 1943 from NATTC, Mephis, TN.

Arrived at VSB-4 on 5 September 1943 from NAGS, Hollywood, FL (VSB-4 is a training Squadron in Jacksonville, FL)

Arrived at VC-81 on 22 December 1943.

Arrived at CASU 50 on June 1944

That's all for now.

Charlie
Is there a specific location you use to search muster rolls? I'm trying to get more information concerning my father George F. Curtis. He wasn't on PT boats but, he did photograph them, he was a Navy photographer stationed in the Russell islands during WWII.
Thanks for any help.

Ancestry.com has put a bunch more of the muster reports on their site. It is a subscription site.

Thank you very much. I was a member there for a while, I obviously missed the muster rolls, I'll resubscribe.

Does anyone know if there is a list of Purple Heart recipients of WWII?
