Hi Ted,
Mr. Keresey writes so clearly of he and Mr. Iles on the 105 with radar that I really want to build the boat that way. The time is confusing to me in that chapter. No matter, it's a time the two men shared together. How do you beat that.

I've always thought the 105, when originally fitted with radar, would have received the SCR-517A "beehive" radar unit, like the Ron 9 boats at Rendova...

DREW;
On all the boats it was used on, SCR-517A "beehive" radar unit was added in the states prior to shipment, as can be seen in pre-deployment photos I have of RON 7, 9 and 10. The later SO-A (to be followed by the later SO-3, in late 1944-early 1945) came out to the foward areas as a kit, starting in 1943, to be installed on boats already deployed.
Take care,
TED

Just to add to Ted's comments, I presented drawings of both types of radar (beehive & SO-A) to Mr. Keresey and he confirmed his boat had the SO-A radar. Later photos of the 105 boat show the same radar unit.

Ted and Dave, you've definitely convinced me it was the SO type!

Hi Michael,
Actually this is my build. I'm stuck on the Impulse Chamber for the torpedo tubes. I'm on my 4th try at them and I hope I have it nailed this time. I've done some work on the torpedo tubes as well. Will post as soon some updates as soon as I can.
