That was my first ship and the one I liked the best. Joined her in Feb of 1975 and left in Aug 1979. Did a few Westpacs, evacuation of Saigon (operation frequent wind). Left her in Bremerton, WA in overhaul. Still wished that I had received orders for PBR's but c'est la vie! Closest thing to PT's that the Navy had at the time.

Piping you aboard, Chief. Did my time on the Indy, and a couple of ventures into the North Sea confirmed to me that flattops were the only way to go.

I was a Snipe, BT on the Kitty Hawk CVA-63 from December 68 to Sept 72 . It seems there were a number of us that wanted Riverine duty and ended up on the Kitty Hawk or other ships instead.
But thats the Navy I guess, over the years I've interviewed a number of PT vets that thought they were going to Tin Cans, Cruisers and Carrier's only to find them selves on PT's A few posts back I was surprised to learn that Melville trained personnel never made it to PT's. History just seems to repeat itself.
