The old saying goes "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't". I like many others have crossed my fingers waiting for this movie to come out, but to no avail. I do not see TCM as owning any rights to the film and if they did, we should see it more then the once every two years or so that they run it.

Now here is a question I have. Can you take a VHS Copy of the film, and transfer it to DVD for your own home use? I know that some of the VHS movies had protection built onto the tapes to keep the film from being copied. Just wondering if anyone ever tried to do this and the type quality you would get.

Frank,

Yes, you can copy a VHS tape onto a blank DVD-R. Combination VHS/DVD players, which can record a TV/cable signal onto a blank video tape or DVD-R, can also record from a played video tape onto a blank DVD-R.

Several services, easily found on the internet, provide films on DVD which have not yet officially been released onto DVD -- they're dubbed onto the blank DVD-Rs from a direct TV/cable source, an existing video tape, or (possibly) a video disc.

I've seen several DVDs from one of these services, including a standard-version copy of a film we've all been talking about, which was most probably dubbed onto the DVD-R from a video tape or disc. The quality was very good. I've also seen a copy of another film which was dubbed onto a DVD-R from a direct TV/cable broadcast, and the quality was fantastic.

I'd much prefer to see official, studio-issued DVD versions of these films, but...you just can't buy them at any price, as they don't exist yet. When they ARE available, I'll buy 'em!

Recieved the free DVD of PT109 today, and i must say it does seem professionally done.It is labelled Warner Bros Classics,Special Widescreen Edition.PT 109
The 2 discs are pictured, with the original cover photo of Cliff, the Boat and the men in the water. The discs are also numbered, mine are 11941 and 11942
To my way of thinking, its not an oppertunistic scam, but a very good product.
Ill leave it up to you guys to make your own judgements, but i for one am very happy with it.and ill enjoy watching it on DVD.
Cheers Fellas

Thank you ray p
Michael

It's a Pioneer DVD burner ray, backed by a computer with a dual core Athlon processor, lots of RAM, and built by me from much researched parts. I'm glad you decided to halt "production", sorry about my rudeness but I'd hate to see anyone here get in trouble...

Here's a screenshot of a 4.46GB burn:
