Cool, great detail, thank you once again Al. I see the mount attaches to the turret on the inside vertical flange too although as you pointed out it could be a Mod change. I thought it just bolted horizontally to the turret with the 12 support brackets underneath.
The ring I'm referring to is on the outside, where the "protective shield" is on the drawing. Does the shield go for 360 degrees or just a section to protect the brake? Photos seem to show a thicker material like about 3/8" plywood... and from what I can tell there is no bend. Later boats don't have this outer ring. I'm trying to figure out when they did away with it.
The brake detail is great, if you have any other details on it they would be very welcome. Images seem to show this changed too, at least the handle did, from a ball end to a loop.
The more I learn, the less I know. /me throws his hands up in frustration
Sorry for the vagueness, I've been ill. Here's what I should have done in the first place, the ring marked "Upper Ring" is the one I'm looking at:

The rings and cradle are extremely hard to find.

The turret rings must've been very hard to find, even back in 1962.
Witness the very high (and unauthentic) fabricated "rings" on the "PT 109" movie boat's turrets, one of the few things on those boats that really don't look right.
