Thanks Drew,
Yes I see that now that you point it out. Only the aft ring rails had the skirt around them right? and the torpedo tubes do look sort of too small dont they? One other thing I see is the gun tubs look tilted forward and they were straight until later models if I recall. Thanks Jerry

Jerry

I sure did not mean to open up a can of worms, but number one:

1. Gun Tubs are pooly detailed, showing an incorect gunners seat and
plastic stop that does not allow the gun tub to go sraight to the deck.

2. The spray shield around the rear gun tub lacks any detail of canvas
and the shape looks more like the tubs of a 77 footer.

3. Spray Shield around the forward gun tub was not present in any of
the 109 pictures I have seen.

4. The dead lights were flush to he deck, and these are raised, which
would have been easy to trip over no doubt.

5. The MK-8 Torpedoes are grossly undersized and do not fit the look
of a real 80 footer.

6. The paint scheme is totally wrong in what looks to be some sort of
Olive drab color, with a much too bright waer line Red.

7. Cockpit details are not that good, showing bright white inner dials.

This is just some items I have seen at a quick glance. Again, this is something that I would not pay the asking price for. I guess I have been spoiled seeing my own Museum Quality Models, and some of the excellent work done here by members of this board. I certainly an not knocking this Company, but once again, it goes to show that people are willing to release these boats to the public, without doing thier homework. By the way, for the money, Italeri's plastic model is by far superior to this model. This is just my thoughts..............

Thank you guys for all the informations, pictures, and comments on this wooden PT boat. That's more than I hope for. In fact I like to take this opportunity to thank the MESSAGE BOARD as a whole. It is truly an
unique organization that I am proud to be a member.
God bless you all,
Victor

Hi Frank,
I truly had not noticed all those little details. Thats why, like Victor, I also like this message board so much! I recently bought an Italieri PT596 model kit and am diligently working on building it now. I can see what you are talking about concerning the Down Under model, and agree with your opinion about them. Although I must admit that I still like the "wooden plank" look on the deck of the model. I never even saw what the asking price for the model is? I probably would not be willing to pay it at any rate. Thanks again Frank, for your detailed reply. Jerry

I just did a PT BOAT MODEL key word search in Google and selected IMAGES and that was one of them.

It's not the one from yachtsdownunder . . . . I do not know the scale.
