Hi everyone. I found these today and thought you may want to see them. Jerry PT658 Portland Oregon
#1 PT180 and PT183 moored Jan20-28 1944 at Rendova, notice 183 has both types of fish.
#2 Ted Berlin's PT167 getting old Mk8 fish loaded. Notice extra supports on Torpedo launching racks to hold longer torpedo. Didn't Al Ross mention this before?

PT boat welcomes CV6 Enterprise into port. Can you see the hull number in this often seen photo?
#8 I think you can see the number in this closer view. It looks like PT20 to me!
#8 I have always wondered what Higgins boat this famous rare night time photo was? Now I can see it is PT247. Must have been taken off the coast of Miami during shakedown detail.
#9 This was on the cover of a period magazine. I love this picture! Dick, no offense to your fine work!

Really interesting photos Jerry, thanks for digging them up and sharing!
The shot of the 183's port side shows a torpedo tube forward and a launch rack aft. I wonder if they were comparing, in the middle of switching over, temporarily out of racks, or something else.

Great shots Jerry. I always say, where where a couple of them when I was doing my second book. I always loved the shot of that PT BOAT cutting across the bow of the USS ENTERPRISE. Reminds me of a little hornet buzzing a huge Horse. The guys on the carrier deck seem to be saying "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!............

Great stuff as always, Jerry. It's interesting: If you look closely at the 183's hull, it seems as if the cammo paint job extends down past the waterline. It brings to mind the stories about crews painting the boats with whatever they had on hand; mops, rags, hand brushes, etc., and using whatever color mixes they could concoct, as long as it was "green".

Jerry,
I've always liked that night time Higgins photo. Thiss is a stupid question, I'm sure, but how did you find that the photo was of the 247 ?
Interesting that the HQ calendar has that photo this month and that the 247 was destroyed by shore batteries May 5, 1944 off Bougainville.

Hi Steve,
I emailed you the original scan, if you zoom in on the chart house you can make out the numbersd 247 very clearly. The caption is dated 29Aug43 so the timeline still works. Jerry

While searching for a previous post, I came upon this post with a bunch of missing photos because of the horrible Photobucket hostage crap! I was able to find the photo in our Photo Gallery library and reposted them above.

great pictures Jerry, I wounder which boat took the picture of the 247 could it have been the 248? it's fun to think it was for me since my dad was on the 248 thanks Scott
